Sneak Preview of the new Elphaba

The first sighting of the new Elphaba is right here! Just click on the link below to watch George Ure's 'Georgecam' behind the scenes at 'Wicked.' Watch particularly from 1 minute 20.

RACHEL BECOMES ELPHABA

Also, congratulations to Jodie, who will be taking over the role of Lady of the Lake in the touring production of Spamalot. Jodie finishes as Nancy on 27th March.

And finally, a big thanks to Andy who has installed a nifty looking 'Elphaba Countdown' on the blog. Particularly liking the milliseconds aspect for those of us who find a whole second just too long.

I've been counting the milliseconds until March 29th ever since we heard that Rachel was to be the new Elphaba. As you can appreciate counting milliseconds is rather tricky and time consuming so I thought I'd add a countdown to save me the bother.

Great video. I'm even more excited now. I'll be counting microseconds and nanoseconds soon lol.

Ok, I know this if going to be slightly unnecessary... but... is the countdown to the start of the show or to the moment when Rached actually makes the first appearance on stage? :) Jokes aside, it is a great feature, very smart indeed

Excellent question, I never even thought of that. Andy, any idea's?

The coutdown is actually to 7:30pm on Monday March 29th which is when the show starts.

I can easily adjust the time but despite seeing the show 5 or 6 times already I haven't actually noticed exactly how long it is before Elphaba appears.

It'a during the second scene for 'Dear Old Shiz' but I'm not sure how many minutes into the show that would be. If I had to guess I'd say she'd make her first appearance at about 7:40pm but I obviously can't be 100% sure.

I can adjust the time if you like. What do you think?

Hehe, I don't think it matters that much, but you are right with timings 7.40 - 7.45ish.
I will certainly be clapping when Rachel makes her entrance, I really don't think I will be able to hold it, afterall I did it when I saw Kerry.

I actually think the countdown rocks! I wrote my previous comment as a joke really. I suppose it's the adrenaline making everything sillier and a bit more of a giggle. After last night triumph, I guess we all sooooo look forward to Monday, don't we? I really can't wait until Rachel gets to sing The Wizard and I, such a treat before DG

,,,and let's not forget the awesome NGD where Rachel will surely let rip.
The whole night is going to be one hell of a triumph, bring it on, I'm ready!!!

I did actually consider trying to figure out exactly what time Rachel would take to the stage but in the end it seemed easier to set it for the start of the show.

'The Wizard and I' and 'Defying Gravity' are going to be incredible.

I see ALW has a new show starting soon. As they both appeared on one of his shows it would be good if he asked Rachel and Lee Mead to perform 'As Long as You're Mine'.

Oh yeah, on the Somewhere Over The Rainbow show, that would be amazing and I can actually see that happening what with the live stages still taking place around the time Lee makes him debut in Wicked in May.
I wonder how well The Wizard Of Oz willfair against Wicked? Although ALW is a genius, personally I still think Wicked will come out on top.
What do you guys think?

Cannot wait for No Good Deed, easily my favourite song! - so fiery!

I'm so indoctrinated with Wicked that I see the Wizard of Oz as a propaganda film! lol

I agree Dan!
I mean ALW is iconic and legendary, and this will never change (obviously, after IDA, I am still annoyed at him, but anyway...). After Wicked's debut in London, ALW has brought out some lovely musicals, like The Sound of Music, and now he has Love Never Dies, that I am sure he is pinning all his hopes on.
But... I don't know, to me, this Dorothy business seems slightly... desperate!? Almost like he is hoping to bank on Wicked success.
I mean the Lord (ALW) has got to be pretty miffed. For decades, there was nothing outised of him, then, this amazing musical came along, and now Wicked has even won against Phantom of the Opera. At times I wonder whether ALW wishes Cats was still in theatres :) Seriously, these witches are here to stay, I think they will keep charming the West End for many years to come
