A Little More Information

Now that Rachel's big news has started to sink in, we thought it might be a good idea to find out a little more about the role of 'Meat' in the show.

If like us you haven't seen 'We Will Rock You' before, here's a little basic information. I should say at this point that we'd welcome info from anyone who has seen the show and can give us a better idea of Meat's role. Please feel free to email dlar193076@aol.com

The show is of course based around the songs of UK rock band Queen, who were absolutely huge in the 1970s and 80s. Younger readers may wish to ask their parents what they were like, but I can tell you from personal experience they produced some of the best rock songs in the history of music.

'We Will Rock You' was conceived as a musical by UK author and comedian Ben Elton, along with Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor.

The show opened in London's Dominion Theatre on May 14th 2002 and has been running ever since, making it the longest running musical at the venue.

The character of 'Meat' sometimes referred to as Meatloaf, is the leader of the Bohemians and her role is extremely demanding, both in terms of vocals and stamina. Currently played by Lucy Sinclair, the original Meat was Kerry Ellis.

Rachel is likely to be appearing in five songs in Act One and eight in Act Two. 'I Want It All', one of Queen's most widely known songs, will be an act one duet featuring Meat and Brit, followed by the hard-rocking 'Headlong', the ballad 'Only The Good Die Young' and the fun fifties pastiche 'Crazy Little Thing Called Love.' Rachel will feature heavily in all these numbers.

Act Two sees our girl perform in 'Flash', 'Seven Seas Of Rhye', 'These Are The Days Of Our Lives', We Will Rock You', 'We Are The Champions', 'We Will Rock You (Fast Version)' and the finale 'Bohemian Rhapsody.'

Needless to say, peak fitness is a must for the role, but as Rachel has demonstrated through her marathon number of performances in 'The Wizard Of Oz' and the rowing challenge on 'I'd Do Anything', this isn't going to be a problem.

Some of you have asked when Rachel is going to have her opening night and others have asked about ticket availability.

The simple answer to those questions is that we don't know yet, but as soon as we do, you will too.

What we can tell you is that Andy and I will be there. It may surprise you to learn that we have actually never met. Despite this, I can safely say that Andy is the best work colleague I have ever had, and it is a privledge to run Rachel's blog alongside him.

You will have no problem spotting us at the performance though -- we will be the two happiest blokes there. We have had complete unwavering faith in Rachel since we first met on the Internet Forums and to see that faith rewarded on a West End stage will make us the proudest bloggers on the planet.

Thank you David, Andy and Karen again. I, like you, have never seen We Will Rock You but now can't wait too, and will also definitely aim to get to opening night!

I loved the forums during the show (I'm smeagy28, btw) and it's fantastic to be able to keep up to date with Rachel's successes, of which I am sure there will be many more...

So well done David, Andy and Karen, and especially well done to Rachel! She will be the best Meat the West End has ever (and will ever) seen!

Just had a look at the current prices, seems like seats range from anything from £27 up to £53 I suppose it may well be a bit more when Rachel starts... but that doesnt seem too extortionate at all,and in my honest opinion money well spent to go and see Rachel turn herself into an even bigger star than she is already!

HI guys,

I second David and thank everyone for their kind comments. It is an absolute pleasure to be contributing to Rachel's blog and helping Rachel be a voice to her enduring fans! and to be able to bring you Rachels news from the "horses mouth" so to speak. Rachel realy wanted to tell you all herself but time was getting away from her and so she gave us the go ahead. I cant wait for Rachels next update but we must all be patient and wait until she has had her well deserved holiday. I know Rachel feels like she's been running a marathon since Oz started last october and this is her first break since then!
Yes Ali great idea to get all the bloggers and fans together to see Rock You! once we have an idea of dates and scedules we can try and organise something.
Arelene and Bailee, during the auditions for IDA Rachel was having call backs for Wicked and was very close to getting it. So, its only fitting she should follow in Kerry Ellis footsteps and I have no doubt that Wicked will follow very very soon! Go Rachel, love you hun...now go rest in the sunshine! xxx

aww thanks so much for the information. I love 'Crazy little thing called love' its an amazing song. I would love to be there on opening night but being a skint student up in yorkshire it seems slightly impossible.

The theter is amazing from the outside (i stopped round the corner from it last year) and had to walk past it every day. There is a subway so near to it (if you get peckish!) haha xx

Hi guys,

I thought I had better add my thanks to everyone for their lovely comments. You can all consider yourselves part of Team Tucker.

That’s interesting news regarding 'Wicked' Karen; I hadn't heard that Rachel had auditioned for a role in that. I guess had she got it we wouldn't have seen her on I'd Do Anything so maybe it worked out for the best. As you say, I'm sure it won't be long before 'Wicked' come knocking and beg her to take a part.

I can't wait to see you in the West End Rachel and it seems like the theatre will be filled to capacity with your fans on your opening night.

Hi Rosie
Rachel was auditioning for the role of Elphaba -- that was in April 2007, shortly after her acclaimed appearance in 'To Be Sure'.
