2011 has proved to be another fantastic year for Rachel. She continues to WOW audiences as our favourite green witch Elphaba, was joined by Stacey Soloman and Pudsey Bear on stage at the Apollo for Children in Need, thrilled the crowd at West End live with a stunning rendition of Defying Gravity, was part of an incredible LOVE146 show in Trafalgar Square helping to raise money for another fantastic cause, picked up the 2011 WOS award for 'Best Takeover in a Role', made numerous TV appearances including Dancing on Ice, launched her official website and most importantly, extended her WICKED contract.

Those are just a few of Rachels 2011 highlights, you can of course check out everything our girl has been up to over the past 12 months by browsing through our old posts.

With Rachel still flying high above Oz 2012 promises to be every bit as exciting so make sure you continue to follow us here at the blog.

An Emotional WICKED Night

Cast Change, Wicked bids farewell to Louise.

Well I’ve finally recovered from a very emotional night at the Apollo Victoria on Saturday. As I’m sure most of you are know, Saturday marked the end of their WICKED journey for most of the cast as they waved goodbye to Oz for the final time.

I’m not going to go into too much detail but rest assured it was a night to remember. There were some lovely extra touches, everyone took their songs to another level and the chemistry between Rachel, Louise and Mark was incredible. I’d be surprised if there was a dry eye in the house after the most heart warming rendition of ‘For Good’ I’ve ever heard. There were even tears on stage as two good friends – two best friends – struggled to keep their emotions under control. Louise’s ‘Get a Grip’ painted fingernails didn’t work on this occasion.

Rachel somehow managed to compose herself to give a beautiful speech at the end before introducing Michael McCabe who hinted that he’d love to see Louise flying around Oz again sometime in the future.

I didn’t go to the stage door because I knew it would be manic and I didn’t want to hold Rachel up any longer on what was a pretty cold night.

I’m now busy trying to work in another WICKED trip early in the New Year to see the exciting new cast but Louise in particular will be sadly missed as her friendship with Rachel made their Elphaba and Glinda pairing very special.

I'll now hand you over to Team Tucker member Emily who wrote the excellent review below. Her memory is obviously FAR better than mine because it's an great read and picks out almost all the nights highlights.

Saturday would have been my 4th outing to see Wicked, and 2nd with my good friend Rachel (not Tucker of course) who came with me. I, like many others I think, bought the tickets when it was announced to be Rachel’s (and the rest of the cast’s) last night, and hadn’t been since Feb so wasn’t going to give them up!

There was such a buzz in the theatre before the performance, many fans (Louise Dearman ones in the majority it seemed), friends and family filled the front few rows, and apparently some had been camping out all night – good on them! As the lights dimmed, the crowd started applauding and cheering, and all the way through the performance, applauses and cheers were that little bit longer - so I could tell it was going to be full of emotion from the start.

I have never heard Louise get such a cheer when the curtain went up. Many people actually stood too, and you could tell her grin was genuine, she looked a bit emotional. (I may be using that word a lot in this review). Rachel got an identical welcome when she ran on, and similarly you could tell she was a bit taken aback.

As ever, Rachel was brilliant. Wizard and I is my favourite song, and it still gives me goose bumps at the end when Rachel hits all those notes and riffs. Louise was brilliant in Popular, and the crowd were uber-excited, in particular as that scene is 90% her, you could tell she was enjoying it. And regarding Defying Gravity – I don’t know how Rachel does it, but every time I see her she out-does her last performance. She was (without trying to use a cliché) spellbinding, and people actually stood up during the performance and cheered about 20 seconds before she ended! Also, in No Good Deed – I don’t think I could convey how spectacular Rachel was, but (once again) the audience cheered her halfway through, and gave her a standing ovation.

Like Andy said, it was interesting to notice little things that the cast changed with it being their last night. When performing ‘What is this Feeling’, Rachel did a sly ‘wave’ to Louise, as if to say ‘bye bye, your last night’ and Louise dropped out of character for a split second in surprise – she wasn’t expecting that! Also, at the end of Defying Gravity after Rachel ended her last note and just before the lights went down she blew Louise a kiss – how sweet J Mark and Rachel had an extra long kiss at the end of ‘As long as You’re Mine’ (not sure what Guy would have to say about that!) and also, with it being the last night for a lot of the cast, the audience were great in giving them all extra cheers – Chistery even got a cheer for his one line!

You could see in particular with Rachel and Louise that they were enjoying every last note of every song, as corny as it sounds, and that the night really meant a lot to them. Certain lines, such as the last ones to ‘One Short Day’ (saying they were ‘two best friends’), and the bit in Defying Gravity when they hold the broom, really stood out and it was hard to watch at times, knowing it would be their last! Also, I re-iterate Andy’s point on For Good being amazing. I was lucky enough to have seats near the front, and (no word of a lie) they were both crying at the end. They actually couldn’t properly sing their last lines, and sort of choked it out and then hugged – I certainly had a tear in my eye, as did most of the audience probably. Lastly, at the end after they have sung the last line of the ‘No-one Mourns the Wicked reprise’ together, Rachel turned to walk to the back and looked up to Louise one last time, which I am sure she doesn’t normally do. Very touching.

Rachel’s speech at the end was heart-warming, and full of emotion. As Andy mentioned, she said her and Louise had been trying to figure out how they were going to get through the performance without crying (and admitted they had both failed) and Louise writing ‘get a grip’ on her nails was brilliant! Anyway, the whole performance was packed full of emotion, but also support for all the cast, in particular Rachel and Louise. As Andy hinted, I hope Louise finds a way back to Wicked somehow, perhaps even for Rachel’s last performance (though lets hope that is way off yet!)

Cast Change Tickets For Sale

As we know Rachel wont now be leaving Wicked on Dec 10th but almost all of the other cast members will so it still promises to be a special night at the Apollo Victoria.

Team Tucker member Bryony Johnson purchased 2 tickets from 'lastminute.com' for £70 but can no longer make the event so is now looking to sell her tickets.

Unfortunately with 'lastminute' they don't tell you the exact seats but she says last time she purchased off them for a similar price she was in Rw K of the Circle.

She'd be willing to accept £50 for the pair which I think is a great offer. They'll be available on a first come first served basis.

My Wicked Day 2011

Well I managed to work a bit of magic of my own which enabled me to attend this year’s Wicked day. I arrived at about 11:00am and managed to park near an open air market where I purchased a lovely hog roast and a cup of tea. I then walked along the Thames - that’s along it not on it, I don’t possess that much magic! - under the London Eye and into the London Film Museum where this years event was taking place.

It was held on the first floor so after giving my donation to the Woodlands Trust I made my way up the stairs and was greeted by a couple of witches handing out goodie bags. Inside were lots of Wicked brochures and leaflets, a mouse mat, card holder, poster and a programme of the day’s activities.

I knew Rachel wasn't getting there until after 2:00pm so I basically wondered around looking at all the lovely stalls which included face painting, shops, photos and lots of cool games for kids. I also watched a bit of the karaoke but needless to say wasn't brave enough to actually take part. There were also cast performances - not Rachel :( - and a Shiz University Challenge where fans were tested on their knowledge of the show. I believe the girl on the right of my picture below was the eventual winner.

When Rachel arrived her first job was to sign autographs with the rest of the cast. I didn't bother to queue for this as I only really wanted to see Rachel so I thought it better to wait outside the room where it was taking place until they'd finished. A few others had the same idea. I was stood near a group of 6 or 7 girls - probably in their late teens, early 20's - and all they were talking about was how sensational and beautiful Rachel is. I couldn't help but nod in agreement and smile. I had got a few glimpses of Rachel by this stage and she was looking so stunning she took your breathe away.

Wicked day was hellishly busy so I wasn't surprised when Rachel was ushered off very quickly after the autograph session had finished for her next job which involved judging some wanna be west end stars who had been selected after sending their videos into the show. Luckily I managed to grab her to say hello, it was brief but lovely. She said she'd try and catch up with me later for a longer chat but I had to leave at 3:30pm so that didn't actually happen. In truth, there were so many fans there and they all wanted to see Rachel that it would have been unfair of me to try and drag her away.

I always really enjoy Wicked Day and would recommend it to any fans of the show. Rachel was actually kind enough to send me an email last night to apologise for being unable to chat for longer which I think just emphasizes that she is not just super talented and beautiful but a lovely person too.

The picture below was taken from Rachel's Twitter. Apparently you can bid for special hats created by the cast on EBay raising money for charity but I can't seem to find a link. If anyone can help me with that I'll add it to the post.

The only video I’ve found featuring Rachel so far is this one where she is offering words of encouragement to the 3 fans who are about to perform on stage.

Rachel at Wicked Day

I just wanted to let you all know that Rachel definitely WILL be attending WICKED day this year.

As mentioned in the previous post, this year's WICKED Day event will take place between 12noon and 4pm on Sunday 30 October at the London Film Museum, County Hall, situated on the South Bank and overlooked by the iconic London Eye.

I should point out however that Rachel will only be there between 2pm and 4pm so if you get there early and can't spot her that's why.

There is a slim chamce I'll be there but it's no better than 50/50 so if you are going remember to take your camera because we'd love to featture your pictures and videos on the blog.

Don't forget this is a FREE event so well worth the trip if you can get there.

WICKED, the "hit musical with brains, heart & courage" (The Sunday Telegraph) at London's Apollo Victoria Theatre, is proud to announce its sixth annual WICKED Day, a free afternoon of family fun that celebrates the award-winning production to raise funds for environmental causes in and around the local community!

This year's WICKED Day event will take place between 12noon and 4pm on Sunday 30 October at the London Film Museum, County Hall, situated on the South Bank and overlooked by the iconic London Eye. For the second consecutive year, proceeds raised will be donated to The Woodland Trust's "More Trees More Good" Heartwood Forest Appeal, planting England's largest new continuous native forest near St Albans.

Inspired by the magical school within the show itself, WICKED Day will this year feature a host of WICKED and Halloween-themed events based around Shiz University Class of 2011. Throughout the day families can expect activities for people of all ages including: Monkey Workshops, a Storytelling Classroom in association with the production's WICKED Young Writers' Award, SHIZ Karaoke, Face Painting and Galinda-fying Parlours, interactive SHIZ Playground area, plus roaming magicians, cast performances and more!

Megan Meets Stacey, Pudsey & Rachel!

As you'll already know from our earlier post Queen of the jungle Stacey Soloman and Pudsey bear joined Rachel & co on Saturday 10th September for a Children in Need performance of 'For Good'.

Team Tucker member Megan was lucky enough to be there to witness this special occasion and was kind enough to write us a short report of her day:

First, Stacey Solomon arrived at stage door, in her slippers! Then Rachel came and she explained she was sick, even pointed out that her voice had half gone and said she wouldn't have been on that day if it wasn't for Stacey. After chatting to her for a while, she thanked us for cheering her up and I told her that whatever happened we'd support her.

In the actual show Rachel was amazing as always, despite being ill and hardly able to speak!

At the end of curtain call, Louise came forward and made a little speech explaining that Stacey would be singing "For Good" with Rachel. There were quite a few of us Rachel fans in the front row that day, and I am pleased to say the applause and cheers she got when her name was mentioned was much louder than the one Stacey got when she walked on! Stacey was dressed in a white dress (as you will probably see in the pictures) and when she walked on Rachel was pointing at her as if to say "doesn't she look amazing?!".. but we all know full well that Rachel is the stunning one.

When they both walked down onto the right hand side of the stage where the poppies come up for the lion cub scene, somebody from behind shouted "Go on Stacey!" so without thinking I shouted "Go on Rachel!" (she needed the support) and it was quite funny as none of the TV crew were expecting anyone to be cheering Rachel on! I'm half hoping they cut that bit out so I won't get humiliated on national TV.

Stacey was.. quite good, and needless to say Rachel was incredible. I was sitting very near to her so it was easy to see she was a bit starstruck! Even though I'd much rather have Louise there singing it with her, it was a nice thing to do for charity and gives us another excuse to see Rachel on TV.

Wicked Announce New Cast

Wicked have announced that Gina Beck and Matt Willis taking over the roles of Glinda and Fiyero from 12 December 2011.

The pair are joined in the cast by Lillie Flynn as Nessarose, Christopher Howell as Doctor Dillamond and Adam Pettigrew as Boq. Desmond Barrit, who first starred in Wicked in 2008, returns to the role of The Wizard.

Stacey Soloman and Pudsey Join Wicked

Stacey Solomon and Pudsey gave Rachel and Louise a run for their money last night when they joined the stars on stage to perform 'For Good'.

Their fleeting but impressive performance was part of the BBC charity's POP Goes The Musical where this week, five celebrities will make an appearance in five different West End shows to perform a song.

Back to Oz

It had been nearly 6 months since I last managed a trip to Oz and had a chat with Rachel at the stage door, which in my book is about 6 months too long. However, last Saturday I finally returned to the Apollo Victoria for another ‘Wicked’ evening’s entertainment.

I was pretty sure Rachel was going to be on but it’s always a relief when you enter the theatre to find there are no cast changes for your performance.

I usually get a seat in the first 4 or 5 rows of the stalls but I was a little further back on this occasion in row L. Luckily I had a small child in front of me so I still had a near perfect view.

My last ‘Wicked’ visit was back in February so this was my first chance to see a few new cast members, Mark Evans (Fiyero), Zoe Rainey (Nessarose) & Ben Stott (Boq). My personal opinion is that they aren’t quite as good as their predecessors but they still did an excellent job. With the exception of Rachel who is clearly the best ever Elphaba, I’m not sure they’ll ever find a better Fiyero and Glinda than Oli Tompsett and Dianne Pilkington but it’s all about opinions and I know others think differently.

I had actually managed to work in this visit around a football match. I follow Bristol Rovers around the country with my Dad and last Saturday we were playing at Wimbledon – you may have seen the match as it was live on Sky, we won 3-2 . However it’s my Mum that loves musicals and especially Wicked so it was decided we’d all go. This meant my dog Max also had to make the trip. My Mum looked after him while my Dad and I were at the footy and my Dad was on Dog duty while my Mum and I were at the theatre.

After the show I ran back to the car to bring Max to the stage door to meet the cast. He was especially looking forward to a stroke from the West Ends number 1 leading lady - at least I think that’s what he said. He wasn’t disappointed because Rachel was surprisingly quick getting changed and soon emerged to greet her fans.

She really enjoyed meeting Max but unfortunately I didn’t get chance to meet Barney because although she’d had him with her earlier in the day he’d gone home after the Matinee. We talked about her wonderful new home and new Wicked contract and she also informed me I’d come close to meeting Hollywood royalty. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie had been to the matinee.

I want to take this opportunity to thank Rachel again for being so lovely and taking the time to chat with me - and Max - at the stage door. You were as adorable as ever.

Rachel to Continue as Elphaba

Exciting news guys.

Wicked confirmed this morning that Rachel has extended her contract to continue as Elphaba into 2012. I'll try and find out exactly when her new contract runs to as soon as possible.

Rachel has been an unprecedented success and the show producers are no doubt delighted they were able to persuade her to stay on.

WICKED, the smash hit musical that tells the untold story of the Witches of Oz, is pleased to announce that Rachel Tucker will continue in her acclaimed starring role as Elphaba into 2012. Julie Legrand (Madame Morrible), Nikki Davis-Jones (Standby Elphaba) and Chloe Taylor (Standby Glinda) are also all continuing in their roles.

UK Executive Producer Michael McCabe commented: “Since first joining our cast in March 2010, Rachel has thrilled audiences and critics alike with her powerful and passionate performance as Elphaba. We are all absolutely thrilled that Rachel has now decided to continue leading the company with her extraordinary professionalism and great dedication to the role - we couldn’t be more proud of her success”.

Louise Dearman (Glinda), Mark Evans (Fiyero), Clive Carter (The Wizard), Julian Forsyth (Dr Dillamond), Zoe Rainey (Nessarose) and Ben Stott (Boq) will all play their final performances on Saturday 10 December 2011.

Magic Summer Live!

Magic 105.4 takes over Hatfield House on Sunday 17th July (this coming Sunday). With an incredible line-up including Elton John and the Lighthouse Family, Magic Summer Live is set to be an amazing event.

Also taking to the stage are the wonderful West End cast's of some of London's top shows including Mamma Mia!, Million Dollar Quartet, We Will Rock You, Jersey Boys and, of course, WICKED! Mark Evans tweeted a while back that he, Rachel and Louise will be performing at this great concert and Magic FM have just put this lovely video on their YouTube account:

As you can see, Rachel and Louise took to the skies with Foxy and Angie (from Magic) and flew all over London, pointing out some of the sights. Also something worth pointing out - note how many times the term 'Defying Gravity' is used!

Just wanted to draw your attention to the Royal Academy of Music's production of 'TOMMY' which is on tonight (24th), Sunday (26th)at 7:30pm and Saturday (25th) at 2:00pm, directed by Guy.

'TOMMY' is a great show with a fantastic soundtrack and would be a fabulous way to spend a couple of hours this weekend!

It was one of the first shows I did at uni, and one of Rachel's first professional shows as well (which, coincidentally, is where she and Guy met! Aww!) and really is brilliant. I have spoken to Guy who described it to me as: "fab cast, hi-tech "empty space" theatre and a fantastic band" and he would love to see as many people there as possible.

At the moment I'm not sure whether I will be able to make it (the joys of working night-shifts over the weekend) but I am going to try my hardest! So yes, anyone stuck for something to do who fancies something a little different - go and see 'TOMMY' on at the Royal Academy of Music. Go go go!

Rachel at West End Live '11!

I was lucky enough to be at West End Live on Saturday. It was a brilliant day, filled to the brim with incredible talent, great entertainment and the strangest weather conditions I think I have ever witnessed!
Still, in a day of absolutely wonderful performances, Rachel's faultless and rifftastic 'Defying Gravity' definitely stood out.
I was near the front with my friend Gavin who managed to get these great pictures with his fancy pants camera and I thought you may all like to see!

West End Live

Two of our regular readers - Dan and Georgia - were lucky enough to be at West End Live on Saturday and see Rachel perform a stunning rendition of Defying Gravity.

As usual Dan managed to get there early and grab a place near the front to record the excellent video below. Amazing, thanks Dan!

"What a day weather wise, we went from being burnt, to drenched and even hailed on! But all in all the event was fabulous as ever, hitting the 10000 mark for attendance and the new venue was brilliant!

Of course Rachel was there as ever, and we were treated to Defying Gravity - the first time i'd seen Rachel do this live. It was AMAZING! Everyone around us was screaming and cheering and consistently all people talked about all day was Wicked, and in particular Rachel. Her dress was amazing, her voice was amazing, well made up for the rain!"

West End Live 2011

West End Live returns this Saturday (18th of June) and continues for the whole weekend. This brilliant event is totally free and a fantastic showcase for the very best that the West End has to offer at the moment!

Rachel has tweeted recently about dress fittings for the event so I reckon it's pretty safe to assume she will be performing - the 'Wicked' slot is at 11:35am on Saturday morning but it'll be worth getting there early and catching the rest of the performances as well as securing yourself a good spot as it's always packed!

Also remember that this year the event is in TRAFALGAR SQUARE unlike the previous years in LEICESTER SQUARE!

And bring your cameras - we'd love to feature some of your pictures and videos afterwards!

Dans 'So Jest End' Report

I thought I would tell you about Jest End tonight.

As you know Rachel was in it a couple of years ago so is a big fan of it and was actually in the audience tonight with her husband Guy.

Anyway I thought I'd tell you about one of the sketches/songs that you'd appreciate.

2 of the actresses came onstage, both dressed in black clothes, one with a big mad black afro type wig and one with long black wig. The big wigged one said "Welcome to the west end news, I am Hannah Waddingham, the Wicked Witch of the West in the Wizard of Oz", then the other actress says "and I'm Rachel Tucker"

Hahahaha - brilliant... they have a Rachel Tucker sketch... when she's in the room!

The actresses proceeded to bicker with each other about who was the better witch and better singer etc - this quite quickly turned into a parody of 'what is this feeling'. I can't remember the lyrics too well, but when the other one was taking the piss out of Rachel she said something about not being able to belt higher than an E and something about sounding like she needed to get her nodules removed to improve her voice.

To be honest I didn't really get these references as for one Rachel always belts higher than an E and also her voice sounds perfect, but I’m sure they are some in-jokes between the writer Garry Lake and Rachel.

I didn't say hi to Rachel, for some reason I was a bit shy (or hung-over) and felt it was a bit of an odd situation, seeing as I was waiting for my friend to go to the bathroom and Rachel happened to just come out lol.

Rachel recently tweeted that she'd done something really exciting for Love146 who are an excellent charity who not only help to stem the tide of human traffiking but to eliminate it completely.

Amanda found these excellent pictures taken by Mark Murfitt of the 'Flash Mob' which took place on Monday in Trafalgar Square.

I had no idea what a Flash Mob was but apparently it's an impromptu dance routine in a public place.

Rachel was joined by past and present divas of Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Charlotte Riby, Portia Emare and Gemma Atkin. They were backed by dancers from an array of West End musicals including We Will Rock You, Dirty Dancing, MAMMA MIA!, Grease, Wicked, Love Never Dies, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, The Wizard of Oz and the English National Ballet.

The singers and dancers performed a routine to a specially arranged track by Annie Lennox to highlight the shocking fact that child trafficking is a major problem here in Britain.

The campaign is dubbed “Can You See Me” because the crisis is all too often hidden and taboo – when in fact it is going on in towns and cities throughout the country, right in front of us.

'Thrill Me' - London

I just wanted to quickly write up a little piece having seen ‘Thrill Me’ at the Actors Centre on Tuesday 5th April 2011. As you all know, Rachel’s husband Guy Retallack directed this show and it had its opening night on Tuesday. I wasn’t really sure what to expect. When I last saw Rachel she had asked me to go as a favour to help support Guy and new musical theatre. I’d already been thinking about it to be honest and when I found out that tickets were only £13-15 it seemed a bit of a no-brainer!

Described as a “Musical thriller”, ‘Thrill Me’ does just that. Right from the outset, this musical is incredibly dark and sinister. One very talented pianist and two incredible voices beautifully provide the chilling soundtrack. George Maguire and Jye Frasca (both West End stars) play the only two characters in the show – Richard Loeb and Nathan Leopold, and do an absolutely sensational job from start to finish! Their voices perfectly compliment each other and carry around the small and intricate settings of the Tristan Bates Theatre.

And it’s not just the very talented pianist and actors that make this production so extraordinary – the lighting and sound technicians deserve a special mention as well and the combination of each element culminates into a stunning and perfectly unique piece of musical theatre. Intricately directed by Guy, ‘Thrill Me’ really was an absolute privilege to go and watch. I know it's sometimes a lot more tempting to go and see a hugely successful West End show such as 'Wicked' whilst in London, but I really strongly urge you to go and check out 'Thrill Me'. New musical theatre deserves our appreciation as there are so many talented people just waiting for their chance to get a foot in the door. It's not all about the big money-making shows but about the smaller shows too, set in small theatres and seating less than 50 people at a time but nevertheless producing a very enjoyable evening of extremely high quality entertainment.

I can't emphasise enough just how much I enjoyed this show and how much I would reccommend it to anyone looking for an edgy new musical with something slightly different to offer. That is totally compelling, interesting, haunting and gripping. A little off-West End gem that is DEFINITELY worth a visit!

P.S Just in case anyone needed further persuasion... Jye Frasca and George Maguire are GORGEOUS!

Team Tucker Wicked Trip

While Rachel was in 'We Will Rock You' we managed to arrange a couple of Team Tucker outings to see the show, one on opening night and the other for her first performance as Scaramouche. There was a third planned but it was cancelled as many of us had to pull out for various reasons.

This type of thing is always very difficult to organize but I wanted to test the water and see who might be interested in a Wicked meet up.

At this stage we are open to suggestions regarding the date of this trip but obviously we can already rule out any of the days Rachel has booked off as holiday. Now I know not many of us live in London so finding a date that works for everyone is nearly impossible but I'll start off by suggesting Saturday 18th June.

Team Tucker members Laura and Stephanie have actually designed t-shirts. Purchasing one is completely optional but for those interested we'll give details of how to place an order if the trip goes ahead.

Don't worry, there is a mens design too!

I was throwing things at the TV when ALW chose to save Sam over Rachel in the I'd Do Anything' semi final but Rachel ended up exactly where she deserves to be, playing her dream role in the West Ends #1 show.

The Belfast singer won a top accolade at a star-studded ceremony in London on Sunday night for her acclaimed performance as Elphaba in musical Wicked.

It means Rachel, who who came to prominence on the BBC's I'll Do Anything, now joins an illustrious list of actors who have picked up a Whatsonstage.com award.

"I was a bit star struck last night. It is a great event and a great award," she said.

"To be nominated was a big surprise and to be recognised for something you get a lot of pleasure doing every night, is a bonus."

Rachel was named Best Takeover In A Role at the ceremony, for her turn as the green witch in Wicked.

And the actress had further cause for celebration when the smash hit musical picked up the Best West End Show gong for the second year running.

"I am bruised with the pitching I am doing," she said.

"To play this part is a dream role of mine, since I heard the soundtrack. My dream was always to get to the West End and I never thought it would be a part like this.

"I started last March and they have extended my contract, which is very nice of them. We all want to stay. So far, I will be there until December."

Dancing on Ice Video

Oh boy, I can't remember the last time I was that nervous, I was physically shaking on my sofa. I can only imagine how Rachel must have felt having to perform such a demanding song in front of a TV audience of millions and in high definition too!

Well I needn't have worried, Rachel was SPECTACULAR!!

Performing on a raised platform - usually used by presenters Phil and Holly - Rachel looked sensational. She was beautifully green and dressed in full witch costume. Not actually the costume she wears for Defying Gravity in the show but my favourite, the one she wears in Act 2.

Her performance was simply breath-taking, hitting notes that most can only dream about and emitting every emotion Elphaba is feeling perfectly. As Emily says in her comment, Rachel's ability to act in such a pressurised and totally different environment to usual all by herself shows her true talent.

There might have been the tinniest wobble on one word near the start of the song but it was barely noticeable and what followed was so mind-blowingly incredible that quite frankly, who cares?

MASSIVE congratulations to Rachel for a spellbinding performance that will surely have all Dancing on Ice viewers visiting the Apollo Victoria very soon.

They've already started visiting the blog, with a record number of hits recorded since Rachel's phenomenal appearance on prime time TV. Seems like the artichoke stole the show.

Defying Gravity on Ice?

I still can't find any official news regarding the Wicked performance on Dancing on Ice this Sunday but there was a small article in The Sun - not usually that reliable a source I know - that suggests it will be Defying Gravity.

The cast of West End musical Wicked will sing Defying Gravity on Sunday's theatre-themed Dancing on Ice - as pro skaters fly above on wires.

Now that is exactly what I was expecting so whether they're guessing or actually know this to be fact I'm not sure.

If any of you guys have heard anything let us know by leaving a comment.

I will be recording the show and uploading the video, hopefully sometime on Sunday night

There is a twitter page called 'Fans West End Awards' and the 2010 winner of 'Best Stage Door Etiquette' went to our very own Rachel.

I have met her at the stage door many times and in all kinds of weather and she always makes time to have a chat. She is so lovely and friendly and happy to pose for pictures. Never has an award be so deserved.

I'm hoping to make another trip to the Apollo Victoria - my second home - in a few weeks time but I know you don't want to read yet another Andy review saying the same old things; we already know Rachel and Wicked are both amazing.

I therefore thought it would be a good idea to think up 5 or 6 questions to ask Rachel at the stage door and post her answers on the blog when I return. Now this is where you guys come in, I'd like you to come up with the questions.

Rachel Won't Be At Album Signing

This has not been confirmed but according to Wussey.com, Wicked London and Wicked Broadway are set to do the first ever 'cast swap', with ALL principles swapping roles for a 2 week celebration both sides of the Atlantic this summer.

Rachel Tucker and Louise Dearman will tread the boards at the Gershswin Theatre on Broadway, while Teal Wicks and Katie Rose Clarke will tread the Apollo Victoria's!

As I said this is not confirmed but Rachel did tweet on Jan 15th that she'd had some exciting news.

As soon as we hear anything official we'll let you know.

Yesterday Rachel appeared in the a gala concert at the Apollo Victoria Theatre - Dionne Warwick and Friends - to promote World Hunger Day.

Nobody from the blog was able to be there last night but I have come accross a few pictures which I thought deserved a post.

The picture above is of an excited Rachel and Louise just before they're due to go on stage. Rachel admitted on Twitter that she was actual a little star struck at being introduced by Dionne Warwick. Now she knows how I feel when I meet her at the stage door.

'More With Every Line' Album Review

Team Tucker member Laura Roberts was kind enough to send us this mini review of the brilliant new album "More With Every Line - The Music Of Tim Prottey-Jones", which as previously mentioned features our very own Rachel.

For Christmas, I got a £15 Amazon gift voucher from my granddad, and I was on the site almost instantly. I had read loads about the album 'More With Every Line: The Music of Tim Prottey-Jones' and was desperate to get it, especially as it had our Rachel on it. So I ordered it during the Christmas holidays, and it arrived on the 6th of January. It only took two days to get here! It was so tempting to just skip to track 13 to listen to Rachel's 'Rain on Me', but I dilligently listened to the other twelve. I have to say, all of the songs are stunning- particular highlights were Louise Dearman's 'Fallen', Jessie Buckley's 'I Will be There' and Samantha Barks' 'Strong Without You'. So there I was, buzzing with excitement, whilst waiting for number 13. Unlucky for some, but not for me!! 'Rain on Me' starts with a thunder rumble (very dramatic!) and then a piano plays. Then, the moment that I had been waiting for: Rachel's voice. Just spine-tingly and gorgeous :) She starts softly and then it just builds up. Her range is incredible! She goes way down low at some points, and then in the middle bit she goes very high! Maybe a high A? Overall, the song is just in a different league. After listening to it three times in a row (I would have listened to it many more times but I had to go to Youth Orchestra!) I decided that this is probably the best Rachel has sung... EVER! My compliments to Tim Prottey-Jones for creating such beautiful music. If you don't have the album I suggest you get it A.S.A.P! It's £13.99 VERY well spent!

Andy's Perfect Start To 2011

Back in November I started to think about the new year and as it drew closer I thought what better way to start 2011 than with another trip to Oz. So I logged on to Ticketmaster and managed to secure an excellent seat in Row E of the stalls.

What I hadn’t actually thought of was how I might feel on the morning of Jan 1st. My plans for a sober night didn’t quite work out but I somehow managed to drag myself out of bed and get myself on the road to London. Thankfully I seemed to feel better as the day went on and by the time I approached the Apollo Victoria I was too excited to feel ill.

It was another superb show with the full cast present. I wont go into great detail as I know I’ve said it all before but even now I’m picking up new amazing things that Rachel brings to the role of Elphaba,

Her acting during ‘Loathing’ is nothing short of sensational. I was in stitches as she flicked her glasses up and down, went cross eyed and stuck her tongue out at Glinda, who was prancing around with her Shiz classmates on the other side of the stage.

It also has to be said that she has really perfected the wicked witch laugh, it’s enough to give you nightmares lol.

I braved the cold after the show to meet Rachel at the stage door and she was as lovely as always and was kind enough to chat with me for some time despite the freezing temperatures.

I didn’t get a picture because I forgot my camera and the one on my phone is rubbish but trust me when I say she looked incredible. Particularly loving the boots and hat Rachel.

She did inform me of some exciting news that she is having a professional official website set up and it should go live later this month. She was almost apologetic because I think she felt David and I might be disappointed but Rachel is a superstar now and really should have her own site. I can’t wait to see it and will of course add a prominent link on the blog.

Don’t panic, the blog will continue to run as David and I enjoy showing our support to such a special lady and interacting with her equally special fans, but now you’ll have 2 excellent sources of information to keep up to date with everything Rachel. She still reads the blog regularly and actually commented on the ‘Accelerator’ clip that I’d only posted earlier that day.

Going to Wicked and meeting Rachel was the perfect start to 2011 and I’m already looking forward to my next trip which I’m hoping will be sometime in February.

As you may remember if you've followed the blog since we began, Rachel made a brief appearance as a nurse in a filmed called 'Accelerator' back in 1999.

It was about a Belfast man, who steals cars for a living, dreams of retiring to Barcelona. He finds himself in conflict with a crazed gangster, who desires the first man's girl friend. The two decide to settle the situation with a race run with 12 of their friends. The trick is that they have to steal the cars for the race.

It seems these performances were limited to Rachel and Lee's Wicked duet 'As Long as Your Mine' and a solo of a song from the Broadway musical, Company called 'Being Alive'.

We did have one lucky reader - Christine - who managed to go to this very special event and she was kind enough to send us a mini review of her evening at the Coliseum:

Lee introduced Rachel and explained their personal connection with Tommy the UK tour. He said it felt strange to go from being in the ensemble together to starring in one of the most successful West End shows as Elphaba and Fiyero. He said Rachel was a great friend. She came on looking lovely, in a glittery white dress. They sang a spine-tingling As Long As You're Mine (without the kiss as Rachel noted her husband and Lee's wife were in !!) Rachel had a slight ad-lib at the end and said "for the first time... we're singing at the Coliseum". It was brilliant. Lee then left Rachel to sing a solo number. Rachel had a little chat about how it was Lee on Any Dream Will Do that inspired her to do I'd Do Anything, which she thanked him for otherwise she wouldn't have been led to play so many wonderful roles. She said it was quite nice that she couldn't see us all- must've been nervous! She then sang Being Alive, a Barbra Streisand version. It was a beautiful rendition.

Apparently after Rachel's bit, she joined the audience with some of the Wicked cast to watch the show. She then came on again towards the end. My friend and I spotted her in the wings, as Lee had asked for the house lights to go up so he could see everyone. It was quite some sight with a full standing ovation on 3 tiers. Rachel looked gobsmacked. Lee then welcomed her back onto stage for a bow.

It was a lovely evening and I'm glad I went!

Unfortunately Rachel is currently off ill at the moment and will not therefore be flying accross Oz tonight. There seems to be a lot of colds and flu around at the moment and it must be impossible to perform a role like Elphaba when you're feeling under the weather. Gemma's Wicked Birthday

After seeing Wicked for the first time last year, I have been a huge fan. The first time I saw it I was blown away and it certainly left a ‘handprint on my heart’. It has an amazing power to lift you up and make you feel good about yourself. Afterwards, when I passed my driving test, I decided on buying a green car, and coincidently it had a number plate ending in ‘GEL’....Glinda and ELphie  This was too much for me and am proud to say my little car ‘Elphie’ is sat in the drive away at the moment. And yet despite getting the wicked tickets as a surprise for my 19th birthday for me and my mum, I wasn’t as excited as I thought I would be. I had seen wicked twice before, once for my 18th birthday with Ashleigh Grey and Diane Pilkington as our favourite witches, and then once in March with Alexia and Diane before cast change. I had been meaning to go and see Rachel and Louise since I first heard they were taking over, as I had seen their performance of ‘Rely On Me The Lead’ on YouTube. And yet I still wasn’t as excited as I wanted to be. But that was probably due to having to work in the morning before hand, and my friend (who had seen Wicked 13 times) wasn’t very reassuring. I had told him I was seeing Rachel as Elphie and he made a very discontent sound, and said ’unlucky’. (Turns out he had seen Rachel as Elphie before she’d really gotten into the role, and after seeing Wicked 13 times he has a very strong opinion and that he had actually thought she wasn’t that bad, he was just a huge Alexia Fan). I was hoping he was wrong about Rachel due to the reviews I’d read. My mum drove us down to the station and I was disappointed to find our train to London had been delayed, but all was not lost. We had left ourselves plenty of time to get down to London and eat before the evening performance.

Walking out of London Victoria Station is always a big moment for me. As I walk out of the station and look right, the sight of the Victoria Apollo Theatre in all its wickedness never fails to take my breath away and give me butterflies in my tummy. This time was slightly different however. I was just crossing the road when I spotted a group of people having their photograph taken by the stage door. I had a chat with mum and we concluded that the matinee show hadn’t finished long ago and the cast were coming out to see fans. I looked closer and in the middle of this group I was pretty sure was Rachel Tucker. I almost stopped dead in the middle of the road in shock, but being in the middle of a busy road in London was not a clever idea. We carried on walking before I turned to mum and said ‘you know I swear I just saw Rachel tucker’. It may have been her, it may not have...but I like to think it was!

Dinner was great, we enjoyed the nice pizza hut with me and mum reciting our favourite quotes from the last time we saw the show and our favourite scenes. This really got me in the mood for Wicked. At seven we made our way down to the theatre. I kept an eye out for cast changes for the evening and was glad to see that I would still be watching Rachel and Louise. We bought our programme, (I still have the programme when Alexia and Diane were in the show, but I wanted a Rachel and Louise Programme!) and bought my souvenir. Every time I see wicked I have to buy something. The first time I went a year ago, I bought the grey Wicked hoodie, in march I bought the Grimmerie, and for this trip I bought the ‘For Good’ Glitter Globe! Walking into the auditorium and seeing the stage with the time dragon clock I remembered the first time I had been and the fact that I was actually going to see Rachel and Louise!! The excitement was building! And the seats were pretty good as well only having booked two weeks before hand! We were sat in row Y of the stalls, Isle seats 10 and 11. We were sat next to two teenage girls who were giggling away so I was a little worried they would chatter through the performance, but I needn’t have worried. As soon as the lights went down and the unmistakable ‘no one mourns the wicked’ opening began, I had a huge grin on my face. Louise in her bubble was AMAZING! I was blown away by her voice, it was just spectacular! And as soon as Rachel ran on stage I knew this was going to be amazing. She acted the part so well! She had all the little mannerisms of Elphie perfect, I couldn’t take my eyes off her! I particularly loved her delivery of the line ‘I’m beautifully tragic’! Her ‘The Wizard and I’ was fantastic, she looked so...elated! It was all I could do not to sing along! And I must say...that girl looks great green! During ‘What is this feeling’ I kept my eyes on Rachel as I know this is a great opportunity for some comedy, and I wasn’t disappointed! Her little actions during ‘Every little trait however small’ were hilarious, flicking an imaginary bag and popping her foot! This is probably the song I remember most actually because of how genius she was throughout it! Pulling funny faces at Louise, flicking her glasses up and down her nose like one of the pink ladies in Grease was hilarious! And then to top it off, during them signing the last couple of lines, walking about toward each other ready for Rachel to make Louise jump, instead of walking, Rachel was doing some play kung foo moves across the stage towards Louise! How Louise didn’t laugh I’ll never know, I was in stitches!

Lee Meads Dancing through life was funny, when he took the book off George and went to throw it off stage, it actually hit the edge of the scenery and bounced back, almost hitting George in the head! Lee was good, though I do prefer Oliver Tompsett. Rachel’s dancing in the ‘Ozdust ballroom’ was so awkward and perfect for Elphie. And she looked genuinely devastated to find out the Galinda had given her the hat as a joke. Popular. Wow. Need I say more? Louise really shone during this scene and seeing the pair together as friends was amazing, they had so much chemistry. During the scene where Elphie tells Galinda it’s her fault her sister is the way she is, I wanted to cry! Or run on stage and hug them. One of the things I remember most is Louise’s ‘That’s not fair, I told you a really good one!’ Where she flopped down on the bed face first. No one could stop laughing the whole time she was laying there! that got one of the biggest laughs of the night, her just laying there! The toss toss was perfect. I love her Louise’s Glinda tosses, and then giggles as she moves her leg down her thigh, I was so looking forward to seeing Rachel try and copy. And again I wasn’t disappointed! It was such an awkward giggle! And when she fell off the bed trying to do the toss toss looked so natural, almost as if it wasn’t planned, though I know it was.

The scene between Fiyero and Elphie after saving the loin club was stunning. Most of the audience were holding their breath when she reached out to touch Lee’s face. During I’m Not That Girl I really felt for Elphie, more so than I had done the previous two times id scene the show. And When Galinda and Fiyero run over the bridge at the top of the stage I always love how, when they run off, Fiyero pauses and looks back down at Elphaba for a moment before following Galinda.

During Louise’s name change speech, I decided to watch Lee and Rachel for their reactions to it. Perfect. They watched Louise with humour and scepticism written across their faces, and yet a for small moments they could glance at each other and look quickly look away. Amazing background acting. When Clive Carter came on stage, he had such a presence, and he played the wizard like I’d never seen him played before! Definitely my favourite wizard! He had the look of power and yet he also looked a little torn at some points, really bringing the character to life!

Now. Defying Gravity. I always get bundles of nerves when I watch this scene. 1/ because of its sheer amusingness and hope that the actor can live up to it and really belt out the song, and 2/ because I’ve heard the audio of Kerry Ellis’s accident on the lift and I always get a little worried about the actress in the lift. But it all went smoothly thank god. I noticed during this scene that the two girls sat next to me were now holding hands and were really into it. Rachel’s defying gravity was....there are no words! It was too good! She hit all the right notes, and showed so much emotion during the line ‘As someone told me lately: "Ev'ryone deserves the chance to fly!" And if I'm flying solo, At least I'm flying free, To those who'd ground me, Take a message back from me’ was outstanding, She looked heartbroken at the thought of ‘flying solo’ etc and I’d never seen an Elphie bring that much emotion into that lyric before. I was grinning the whole way through and when Rachel hit the final note, she put so much into it, and she growled. Throughout the whole interval I was telling my mum how amazing Rachel was and how glad I was she had growled and how amazing it had been!

Thank goodness really showed off Louise’s skills as a singer and actor. Bloody hell that girl can sing! And the look on her face when fiyero left, saying how she couldn’t be happier...you could tell that Glinda’s happiness was all an act. The last time I was Wicked in March, the wardrobe during ‘The Wicked Witch of the East’ failed to come out, but this time thankfully it did. George did a fantastic job as Boq and Cassie Compton was brilliant as NessaRose.

For some reason, every time I thought of wicked, I missed out wonderful. That will certainly never be happening again. This time I spotted Rachel up the stairs at the side of the stage watching Glinda and Fiyero dance. The look of heartbreak, confusion and a hint of jealously written on Rachel’s face really made that for me. She looked so torn. And yet most of the focus was on Louise and Lee. If you can’t tell by now, I like to watch the actors who aren’t the centre of things to see their reactions etc, it really bring a new depth to Wicked for me. It was this scene that made me fall in love with Clive Carter as the wizard. He acted everything so precisely and he had added so many little actions that the previous actor hadn’t. Which really showed me how truly amazing he is. And Rachel during this scene, although she didn’t get a lot of lines, again was fantastic. And I really enjoyed the small dance between the Wizard and Elphie before she stops him about the flying monkeys. Rachel’s cackle after telling the wizard her ‘heart’s desire’ to fight him was...Wicked! I held up high hopes for the cackle in the corn field.

The scene between Glinda, Fiyero and Elphie was heart breaking, though the line ‘we all went to uni together’ got a lot of laughs. Louise’s I’m not that girl was full of betrayal and yet there was some understanding. Fantastic. As long as your mine...Jesus Christ. Rachel and Lee really shone. You genuinely believed that they were lovers, he was kissing her hands and stroking her face whilst she looked so torn about what she had done to Glinda, and yet so happy to be in his arms. Stunning. And then Rachel did something I hadn’t seen Ashleigh or Alexia do. When Elphie talks about her sister being in trouble and hurt, Rachel grabbed her chest as if she was in actual pain, and then looked shocked and confusion by the pain, as if she and her sister shared a connection and Elphie could feel her pain. That was something entirely new to me and it was genius.

The catfight. Hilarious. One of my all-time favourite lines ‘we can’t all come and go by bubble’ was delivered perfectly. The only slightly disappointing part was Rachel’s cackle. After her earlier cackle I held up high hopes but unfortunately it wasn’t as good as I had hoped. But then again its very difficult to build into a cackle when you’re not genuinely laughing, as I have tried. But I knew she could do it from her earlier cackle so that didn’t really bother me. Rachel’s No Good Deed was the best I had ever heard. There was so much emotion in her voice and the power behind it. I was sat with my mouth hanging open. It was flawless! When we got to ‘For Good’ The girls next to me were in tears, and I wasn’t close off. You could really see how close the pair were and what good friends they were. Louise managed to lighten the mood slightly when she fiddled with the front of Elphies hat in affection with them both giving a sad little laugh. It just fit so well. And the melting, Rachel’s melting scream strongly reminded me of the Original Wicked Witch of the West in the 1939 film adaptation of The Wizard of Oz.

There was a murmur through the audience and I heard someone gasp when we found out that Elphie was the Wizards daughter. It was acted beautifully by Clive. You genuinely believed that he had made me daughter an outcast and the pain he felt now she was ‘dead’. When Lee came back as the scarecrow and let Rachel out of the trap door, everyone in the audience was captivated, either in shock or awe, I’m not sure which. When Louise and Rachel sang the reprise of no one mourns the wicked, Rachel looked stunning! Given she was wearing that light black dress and some of her wig pinned back, but she looked beautiful. I turned to my mum and actually said ‘Mum, she looks stunning!’ Mum merely nodded in agreement as she was too engrossed in the scene.

Needless to say, it was the best production of Wicked I have scene. Rachel and Louise have replaced Ashleigh and Diane as my favourite leads. Of course they got a standing ovation at the end. And when the music was playing and everyone was waving and clapping, Rachel started doing a kind of wave dance. It was entertaining and when the curtain was going down she was crouching down with it until the curtain had completely fallen. I had originally wanted to stay to see the cast at stage door, but we had to get our train, but from a distance walked back to the station I manage to get a quick glimpse of Clive and Cassie meeting the fans.

On the train home I was looking back through the programme when a foreign couple started asking me about the show, so I was more than happy to talk about it and recommend it, though they’d never even seen the Wizard of Oz Film! So when they left they assured me they would rent the dvd and then go see Wicked 

Overall...best birthday gift ever! Rachel and Louise didn’t disappoint and I will definitely be returning to watch them with friends as soon as I have the money. It was of course Rachel who really stood out for me. I’d totally forgotten by the end of the show that Rachel actually has an Irish accent as you couldn’t tell on stage at all. Her voice, facial expressions, and everything was just perfect.

Stephanies Wicked Adventure

Once upon a time in Zandvoorde, near Oostende in Belgium! Way to early in the morning - about 3 am - my alarm went off! I slept for about two hours I think, but that didn’t matter, I was totally ready for my trip to London. I was too excited to sleep that night anyway.

My best friend Delphine picked me up at 4 am and we drove straight to the station. We caught the early train at 4.35 am to Brussels. It all went well, until we stopped. The conductor told us that there was a problem with the engine and that they were trying to fix it as fast as possible. We knew already that there were problems with the trains because of the weather and that the first Eurostar from Brussels had been cancelled! We waited for about 30 minutes and then luckily they told us that the problem had been solved.

We arrived in Brussels safe and sound, but there was an enormous queue for the next Eurostar to London! We managed to secure a seat on the train and we actually left on time.

Please, no more problems.… but unfortunately! Due to the bad weather the train wasn’t able to travel anywhere near its full speed and to top it off there was another problem with one of the engines when we reached Ashford.

We eventually arrived at King’s Cross St.Pancras after a huge delay at about 11 am. Oh my god, what a journey. Luckily we had a lot of fun!

We took the underground to Euston Square where our hotel was situated. Once we arrived, the receptionist could not find our booking. He made a few phone calls and finally we got the key of our room. He may count himself lucky that he was so cute !

Normally we had planned to go to the theatre by noon to catch the cast coming in, but we got there at 12.45pm, so we had missed most of them. Rachel was already in getting greenified. We waited for a while but just as we decided to leave, Lewis came out to get his favourite eggnog latte! He was very lovely and he was pleased to have a picture with us.

We had tickets for the evening performance, so we decided that we should wait at stage door again after the evening show.

In the afternoon, we went to see Madame Tussauds and we had a lot of fun. We also went to the “Abercrombie & Fitch” store but we had to wait in queue for about a half an hour just to get in. All this just for clothes??? Inside the store it was very crowded and we had to wait for another hour just to get to the till. Unbelievable!

Almost 6 o’clock, just enough time left for a quick stop at our hotel to have a wash and brush-up!

We arrived the theatre at about 7 pm. I bought a program because I didn’t bother last time. We were sitting at row P of the Stalls and we had a very good view from there. I have seen the show already on September 28th so I was really excited to go through this adventure all again.

The show began and Louise was fantastic on her bubble. I really liked her performance as Glinda! I was waiting for Rachel coming on stage and finally, there she was, beautiful as always! Her first song “The wizard and I” was truly amazing. Wonderful how she manage her magnificent riffs! Louise’s performance of “Popular” was hilarious, especially during her “la la la”! Lewis was wonderful too, but Rachel still remains the star of the show. I know most of the songs off by heart so I sang along, but not out loud off course, lol ! My singing abilities are not that good. All of Rachels songs made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, especially during “Defying Gravity”. She has so much power and feeling behind her vocals. Rachel is just so amazingly special!

I really enjoyed the whole show and I actually cried at the end! There was an enormous standing ovation when Rachel and Louise came on stage after the performance. Rachel gave Louise a big hug and even foot popped, how cute!

After the show we did walk down to the stage door. I saw Louise talking with a couple of girls. While we were waiting to speak to Louise, Cassie Compton came out and we had a picture together and she signed my book. Unfortunately while we were doing this Louise actually left, what a pity I missed her!

While waiting for Rachel, we met a girl from the USA who was studying in London. It was fun meeting her and we even took a picture together. Rachel came out at about 11 pm and I was surprised how quick that was. She was so lovely, really kind and all smiling. She signed my book (with a green pen ) and we had a picture together. We chatted for a while and I really loved her cute Irish accent! I told her that I cried at the end of the show and she said “Ooh, was it that horrible?”, lol ! I also wanted to show her something special. Did I mention that I won Rachel’s jewellery from the Wicked Day auction on Ebay? I brought it with me and she said “Oh my god, you’re that girl who won my jewellery, how lovely”! The selling price was a bit beyond my reach but it was for a good charity.

After this wonderful meeting we took the underground to our hotel because we were both very tired. It had been a long day! We went off to sleep but after a while I had to go to the toilet really bad. Oh no, I realized that there was no toilet in our room, so I had to go outside and I was already in my pyjamas. I pulled on my fluffy boots. I looked into the mirror before I left and I thought “Oh my god, my hair is a mess, I wear a pink squared pyjamas with fluffy brown boots under it”! I looked “beautifully tragic”, lol ! I opened the door as quiet as possible, looked left and right down the hall and then ran as fast as I could to the toilet. OK, nobody saw me, what a relief! I did the same maneuver to get back to my room. What an excited adventure!

After a good night’s rest we had breakfast and then we went off for Christmas shopping. It was even more crowded than the day before.

We went to the station at about 3.30pm because our train at 6.25pm had been cancelled. They recommended we take the 3:30pm train because it might be the last one to Brussels. There were no big problems during our return and we arrived in Brussels at 7.30pm, local time. We had to take the train to Oostende and got home safe and sound at about 9.30 pm!

In spite of all the problems we had been through, we had a wonderful time in London!

And Rachel, if you read this, thanks for everything! It was perfect, everything I hoped it would be and more!

Q&A With Rachel

Rachael Hughes, who recently went to see Wicked with her sister Claire and wrote us an excellent review of her day - which you can see a couple of posts down - also sent our Rachel some interview style questions. Being the absolute star that she is, Rachel responded and answered all of the questions in some detail, and Rachael - that's Miss Hughes not Miss Tucker - was kind enough to share those answers with us.

Q. Your fans love the individuality you bring to the songs through your riffs. Are they part of your planned performance or do they just happen when you’re in the moment?

A bit of both actually! During rehearsals there was so much to learn and get right and, as the music is simply amazing enough as it is, I didn’t feel the need to add more to it! But, I’ve found some little moments that, when it feels right, I want to say more with the song and music so I just let myself go that little bit extra!

Q. How hard is it to maintain your enthusiasm when you do so many performances of the same show? How do you do it?

Elphaba is a beautifully, complex character. To play it with truth and conviction every night takes a lot of processing both physically and mentally so there really isn’t a chance to be anything other than in the moment! However on those occasions that I’m not 100% I try to give just what I can and usually the enthusiasm happens naturally!

Q. The Wicked Day 2010 charity auction went really well. Were you surprised at how much your customised T-Shirt and jewellery fetched?

Yes! I didn’t watch any of the items on eBay so I only found out after, I was really shocked at how much they went for. So thanks to those who really did dig deep for a very good cause!

Q. You recently Tweeted that you couldn’t wait to see your “wee mummy’s face” did you have a nice time catching up with your family?

It was a gorgeous break with my family- we saw Billy Elliot which was fab! We also took Mum and Dad to Bath for a night. We had never been so it was such a culture shock, beautifully stunning!

Q. Many People would love to have your vocal on a London Cast recording, how would you feel about it if you were approached? Who has the power to make it happen?

Good question! Well that lies with the powers above! I know there has been a lot of interest in a London cast recording however I don’t think it’s something in the producers interest. I’m sure if it was possible one would have been done before now. But who knows? Maybe if there is a big enough noise made by a big enough amount of you then they might just change their minds!!! Personally-I would love it!

Q. Have you ever gone home with your green make up on? What would Guy say if you did/have?

No, but there has been water cuts in the building before and I think Nikki Davis-Jones had to go home green, he he he! No, we must take it off as it is part of our costume. Think Guy would laugh!

Q. How’s Barnaby settling in? Has he destroyed any of your shoes yet?

He’s been amazing! He’s house trained already and he obeys some basic commands, sit, down and stay. He especially loves his 2 new doggie hoodies!!! Which he chews on but no shoes...yet! Oh, but he loves my slippers!

Q. What would you say to any aspiring stars out there? Any words of advice?

Yes-Don’t give up! It’s a long, hard slog most of the time and I think it should be because you don’t realise but you learn most things along the way! You get to know who you are as a person and performer. Maybe try getting some qualifications in teaching that will make you your living when you’re not “so lucky”. And yes- luck has a lot to do with it-right time, right place and the right thing! But as my Dad always used to say to me “The harder you work the luckier you become!”

Another Wicked Day For Andy

Have I used that title before? Probably, but I've seen Wicked so many times now I know I'm going to start repeating myself.

This was a bonus trip really. I was actually going to London on Tuesday to watch my football team - Bristol Rovers - play at Charlton. It was a night match so I stayed at a Travelodge in Whyteleafe. Not ideal but the closest I could find with a reasonable price at short notice. It was about 20 miles from Charlton and roughly the same distance from Victoria.

I had purchased tickets to the Wednesday matinee performance of Wicked and my plan was to get there early enough to catch Rachel going in. Unfortunately the traffic getting in to central London was horrendous and by the time I actually found somewhere to park and ran to the theatre it was nearly 2:00pm. 3 hours to travel 20 miles, I don't know how people put up with that every day. Anyway, I knew I was too late so I didn't even bother going to the stage door.

I was delighted to see that Sarah Earnshaw was on as Glinda because as I've mentioned before I actually prefer her to Louise and it will probably be the last time I see her before she leaves in February.

My seat was in Row C of the stalls, 5 seats in from the right. A great view at a very fair price of £27.50. The only scenery you can't see is the yellow brick road.

I was actually sat next to a group of school kids - probably aged 8-10 - who were lucky enough to be on a day trip to the Apollo Victoria. I was a bit concerned they might play up but I needn't have worried. From the moment Sarah came down on her bubble they were transfixed by the wonder of the show.

Being a matinee I wondered whether the cast would hold back a little knowing they'd have to do it all again at 7:30pm but there was no sign of that. I really don't know where they get their energy from.

Sarah was even funnier than I remembered and her BALL GOWN screech probably caused a localised earthquake. I think because she has been there so long she just seems to know exactly how to play every scene and like Rachel, she never switches off, even when Glinda is in the background she'll be swinging her handbag or flicking her dress in all the right places. Little things but they do make a difference.

I love Sarah and will miss her when she leaves but as always Rachel was the star of the show. I actually found myself welling up during 'The Wizard and I', 'Defying Gravity, and 'No Good Deed' such was the power and feeling behind her vocals. Every time I see her she just seems to get better and better. I think it's probably because unless you're actually there watching the show you can't believe just how amazingly special this lady is.

Her on stage chemistry with Sarah was incredible, especially when you consider they have limited opportunities to perform together. 'Loathing' was hilarious and their 'For Good' was the most heart felt I've seen.

I wouldn't want to be responsible for casting the next Elphaba because how do you replace someone like Rachel. The simple answer is, you can't. Thankfully we don't have to worry about that for at least another 12 month's.

After the show I did walk down to the stage door. I knew I wouldn't see Rachel but I thought I might catch a couple of cast members. I waited about 10 minutes when Cassie Compton - NessaRose - actually approached the stage door from the other side of the road. She had obviously got out pretty sharpish after the matinee and was returning with something to eat. I told her how much I enjoyed the show and asked her to pass on my best wishes to Rachel.

Then it was back to the car for the long drive home.

Rachaels Wicked Review

Thanks to Rachael for sharing her Wicked experience with us. She very kindly took her sister Claire to see the show for her Birthday. Now I have pictures of both girls with our Rachel but I'm not totally sure 'Witch is Witch' so if either of you are reading this please leave a comment to let us know.

Rachaels Review

My sister Claire and I arrived at the stage door about 12.30pm, feeling very nervous and completely unsure of where to look to spot anyone and what to say if we did. This was highlighted by the fact that Louise Dearman turned up about 10 minutes later and all we managed was a feeble ‘Hi’ and a star struck gaze as she disappeared through the stage door. To be honest we didn’t fully realise it was her until a tick tock after the door had closed, she is so tiny! Which really does not come across on stage.

So, one failed attempt down, we were determined to make sure we got the autograph of the next cast member we saw. We didn’t have to wait long for Julie Legrand to show up, looking much more approachable than her character! She was really lovely and said “ ahhh, the Grimmerie” in a very Madam Morrible like way, when we produced it for her to autograph, she even wrote a personalised message for us.

With one successful meeting under our belt we were feeling a renewed sense of confidence and were lamenting even more deeply our complete fluff up with Louise.
About an hour into our vigil we were joined by a group of lovely American women who were all waiting for Lee Mead and were so excited at the prospect that we agreed that they could push us out of the way as soon as he showed up.

Next to arrive was the delightful Rachel Tucker who was all smiles. The main thing we noticed was how very charmingly Irish she is, you could tell how much work she must have put into her stage voice for Wicked. We asked her to sign a page near the front of the Grimmerie with a picture of a green baby Elphaba, Rachel hadn’t seen it before “is that really in here? I look like a boy!” she exclaimed, nevertheless she graciously signed it and stopped and had a photo with each of us.

Time was marching along swiftly now and we were beginning to wonder who might be left to accost when Clive Carter showed up, who was also very lovely, and stopped to have a little chat with us, asking if we were staying to see the show today whilst he signed our book. George Ure wasn’t far behind and although in a bit of a rush was more than happy to bestow his autograph upon us. He was trying to juggle his drink and bag with our book and pen so I offered to hold his coffee for him. He agreed and thanked us but you could tell that there was a moment’s hesitation where he assessed if we were the crazy stalker like fans who would steal it and sell it on ebay! Ever bright and cheery he disappeared through the door reunited with his coffee cup and calling “enjoy the show darling” over his shoulder.

We waited for quite a while after this, seeing only members of the ensemble that we knew by sight but unfortunately not name. Eventually, shortly before 2.00pm and just as we were giving up hope of seeing anyone else Lee Mead showed up. After the lovely American ladies had a nice chat with him, we got his signature and a photograph. Despite the fact that Lee was running late, he still made time for us and stopped for a chat. He was really friendly and definitely as charming as he comes across on stage.

All in all it was a marvellous first stage door experience and the show only seemed better (as if that was even possible) after having met most of the cast.

Rachel Tucker was brilliant, she has such an amazing stage presence you can’t but help being absorbed in watching her from the very first word. Her performance of Defying Gravity made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up and No Good Deed left me with goosebumps! Louise was hilarious in the Popular scene, we noted she had added some extra bits in to it and they worked brilliantly, Rachel had also slightly changed her ‘toss, toss’ attemps only adding to our amusement. Lee Mead was compelling as Fiyero, bringing the part to life and managing to make the characters emotional transition very believable. He appeared to be very comfortable in the role, dancing with movements so graceful he seemed to float accross the stage at times. The only disappointment, according largely to Claire, is that he didn't get more opportunities to sing! (Can you tell who her favourite is?!)

The last time we went I hadn’t paid too much attention to Clive Carter or Julie Legrand apart from when they were prominently feauturing in a scene, this time however, having the luxuary of being better aquanted with the plot and feeling somewhat obliged after extracting conversations and autographs from both, I decided to watch them more closely. I was rewarded by spotting Clive indulging in some excellent background acting. When Glinda and Elphaba are arguing in front of him in Act 2, he sinks to the floor appearing to have a heart attack in reaction to the shock, after a little while he ‘passes out’ until he hears Glinda mention Elphe and Fiyero where he suddenly perks up and sits forward to listen to the gossip attentivly. Completely worth a watch!

We will definitely be booking yet another show while this cast is still together and will make sure that we are looking extra hard next time for a petite blond walking towards the stage door!

Andy's Wicked Day

It wasn’t until I woke up on Sunday 31st October that I eventually gave in to temptation and decided to make the trip to St. Pancras Station to experience my first ever ‘Wicked Day’.

I rushed around and set off from Bristol at 8:30am. That gave me about 3 hours before the event was meant to start, which I thought should be just enough time. Unfortunately, 50 miles up the M4 the heavens opened and I had to drive through torrential rain from then on. The spray was horrendous and the traffic really built up as I approached Reading and only got worse the closer I got to the capital. When I eventually parked my car in St.Pancras NCP it was just after 12:00pm.

When I entered the station I could hear Rachel and Louise belting out ‘For Good’. Unfortunately St.Pancras is a pretty large place and the mini stage on which they were performing was at the far end. I raced past other Wicked fans and daily commuters but only arrived as the song was coming to an end. I didn’t even get chance to take my camera out at that stage.

Now the order in which things happened after that is a little blurry. I don’t have the best memory and of course due to the fantastic news of Rachel’s contract extension I am writing this over a week late.

I think the first autograph signing session was arranged for 1:00pm, so before that I went for a wonder round. Everything was quite spread out and I know a lot of people preferred 2010’s more intimate setting but I wasn’t there last year so I can’t really compare.

There were Wicked stalls everywhere, some selling merchandise but others happy to take any sort of donation for the less expensive items. I popped a couple of pounds into a collection pot and picked up a Wicked Day 2010 poster.

Costumes from the show were on display in numerous shops, there was a story telling workshop for kids, face painting and other activities. I saw various cast members walking around, George Ure (Boq), Cassandra Compton (Nessarose) and Sarah Earnshaw (Standby Glinda), all of which were more than happy to stop and chat to fans.

I stopped for a bit to enjoy the Wicked karaoke. The standard of those singing varied quite a bit if I’m honest but it was good fun. I might have been tempted to take part had a duet with Rachel been on offer but unfortunately it wasn’t, so I gave it a miss.

By the time I made my way back to the autograph area the queue was very long. I could also see that the Wicked staff were ushering everyone through pretty quickly because they had a schedule to keep to, so I would have barely have had time to say hello. I decided at that point to try and catch Rachel a little later.

That autograph session finished at about 1:30pm – I think – and as the Wicked staff tried to rush Rachel and Louise off to their next assignment I managed to grab a few words with the lady I’d come to see.

I know I always say she looks stunning and that’s no lie but this time she looked even more amazing than ever, dressed in a incredible Wicked t-shirt that she customised herself. Check out the picture at the top of the post or the one at the bottom and you'll see what I mean. I think we’ll need to add fashion designer to her ever growing list of talents.

I got her to sign my Wicked Day poster and told her that I’ll be selling it either on the blog or on EBay, giving the proceeds to the events charity, the Woodlands Trust; more on that later. We could only have a brief chat because the organisers were very keen on everything running to time but she was as lovely as always and seemed apologetic as they encouraged her to get a move on.

After getting a bite to eat I purchased a standard Wicked poster and Wicked card holder from another of the charity stalls. Unfortunately I didn’t get chance to get those signed but whoever purchases the Wicked Day poster will get those as well.

At about 2:45pm it was time for Rachel and Louise – I think Lee was there too – to judge the Glee Club performances. The first act – pictured above – chose Defying Gravity as their song which went down well with the mass crowd of Wicked fans watching on. I stayed to watch the first couple before having to leave for the long drive home at about 3:15pm. I had plans in the evening that I couldn’t really get out of.

I have to say I think it’s a great event and I want to thank Rachel and all the cast for giving up their day off to meet the fans and help raise money for a good cause. I’ll definitely be going back next year.

The Wicked Day 2010 auction is currently on EBay with so much memorabilia you won’t know where to start. The sensational T-Shirt I mentioned above which was designed by Rachel is one of the items available, although you’ll need to dig deep if you want it because bids have been flying in and the current highest is £151.00. Most of the cast designed their own tops for the auction but Rachel’s is clearly the best and is understandably proving to be the most popular.
