Team Tucker Good Luck Card

TT member Lauren Pitman came up with the fantastic idea of sending Rachel a good luck card from her fans.

We thought this was a terrific suggestion and wonder how we didn't think of it ourselves.

We are going to purchase the best good luck card we can find and would like all members of Team Tucker to send us their good luck messages for Rachel.

If you aren't already a member this is just another great reason to join.

Short messages will be hand written on the card and long messages will be printed out and enclosed inside.

We intend on sending the card about a week before her opening night and would like all messages in by the 10-Sep-2008. That should give you plenty of time to think of what you'd like to say.

When you've completed your message send it to me (Andy) or David in an email and we'll ensure it's included in the card.

We'd like to offer our Special thanks to Lauren for coming up with this excellent idea.

If you'd like to do the same you can leave a comment on her Team Tucker profile.

Congratulations to Francesca!

It really is great to hear so much good news about the girls from 'I'd Do Anything'.

Francesca Jackson, who deserved to go so much further in the show, has landed the role of Lucy in Bill Kenwright's 'Can't Smile Without You.'

The show will be touring for the next three months, starting in Bromley on August 28th.

Well done Francesca!

Betting on Rachel

As we've said in the past we always appreciate fans input and we were recently contacted by Team Tucker member Chris Johnson. He offered to write an article about his experience betting on Rachel during I'd Do Anything. Being a mild gambler myself I was interested to hear about his experience and we thought you might be too.

It was a Saturday evening in late March. Having already had a flutter on the afternoon’s football proceedings, I was looking for a betting opportunity to give me some interest over the forthcoming weeks. I thumbed through the TV guide and saw there was this new series ‘I’d Do Anything’.

I’d enjoyed both ‘How do you solve a problem like Maria’ and "Any dream will do" and been fortunate enough to select the winners of both series. So I thought I’d have a look at the Nancy’s - it can’t be that hard to find the winner of this also!

As Graham Norton flounced down the stairs as only Graham Norton could, I settled down with a pen and paper to see who I fancied!

Well Jessie seemed talented, Jodie was ok, Sarah was sweet, Tara didn’t cut it, Amy looked unnatural, Samantha I put down as a maybe, Niamh looked too fragile, Keisha I just couldn’t see as Nancy, Cleo lacked punch, Ashley somehow didn’t have star quality, and Francesca didn’t have 'it' according to my notes....

I had no notes for Rachel.

The reason was I didn’t need any. From the moment she came on she captivated me with her rendition of ‘About you Now’. Although it was maybe a slightly raw performance it was still by some distance the best performance of the night and I thought "by jove this girls got it" (didn't Cameron Mackintosh say the same weeks later?).

Rachel was the unfortunate person to carry the weight of my financial support on her shoulders! From now on I was going to be living every note, dance, slip up and panel comment. Little did I know the highs and lows that were to come.

The bookies having watched the contenders also concurred with me to start - Rachel was slight favourite at 5/1 - so I thought it was worth a wager because as the weeks go on I expected her price to tumble.

Week two was Jessie’s week, her rendition of Killing me Softly melted a lot of hearts and obviously that of the bookmakers too as suddenly our Rachel was no longer favourite! But I wasn’t too worried, Rachel was the only one with the true ability to blow them away.

One by one the contenders were eliminated, each week I was compounding my money on Rachel. By now Jessie’s performances were becoming more irregular and she was the only real threat that I saw. However support for Sam was steadily building and her performances were rapidly improving too and Jodie was also starting to impress.

Week Six and suddenly Rachel in the sing off? Surely this couldn’t be true?

I breathed a sigh of relief when our girl was saved but somehow the danger signs were there. Barry Humphries said something about impersonating the emotion rather than acting it and the studio audience weren’t going absolutely ballistic like they were for some of the other girls.

Then once again in week eight, Rachel found herself in another sing off, this time with Niamh. Was I missing the point here? Had they all forgotten about her previous performances? The price on Rachel by now was drifting. Any girl in two sing offs can't stand much chance of winning and surely must be next to go?

By now they had installed Samantha as 11/4 favourite, Jessie 3/1, Jodie 9/2 and Rachel a dismissive 14/1. At that price I bit. Clearly the class act was rated by the bookies as the rank outsider. The more I thought about it during the week the more I thought Rachel would deliver a performance come Saturday. All this "feeling the emotion" and "great understudy" twaddle from Humphries ensuring she had a point to prove.

Little did anyone know what was to happen on 24th May 2008, when Rachel delivered the best moment of any actress or singer on British television in years. The performance of Cabaret absolutely blew everyone away. DVO visibly imploded with emotion, John Barrowman was singing from the rooftops, Barry Humphries (Rachel’s biggest critic) was converted in an instant; not to mention Cameron Mackintosh and Lloyd Webber visibly drooling at the talent they had just witnessed. And me in my living room, giving Rachel a standing ovation; clutching a whole host of betting slips because I believed in Rachel’s talent so much.

By now this had become personal. Rachel was the winner in my eyes and just having delivered that performance I was confident she would make the final. Suffice it to say the stunned silence when Lloyd Webber went with Samantha was an unbelievably depressing moment.

Those bets were in vain and Rachel’s dream was shattered. I’m sure Jodie will make a good Nancy but our Rachel was the "moral" winner of this. Its just a shame that bookies don’t pay up on moral winners.

Rachel has single-handedly reinvigorated my love for the West End (I was brought up on theatre) and for that I owe her my eternal thanks. My enjoyment of the series went far beyond any bets or wagers because watching Rachel perform was just pure quality.

I started out the series as just having a small financial interest but left much richer not in money terms but in life enjoyment; buzzing with enthusiasm about a huge star about to get her big break. It was a life enriching experience and I’m now a true follower of the lady that made it all possible.

Rachel, thank you.

Rare Rachel Volume 1

Over the last couple of months we've built up quite a portfolio of Rachel photos from various sources.

Most of these have already been featured on the blog, but there are still a significant number which don't quite merit a post on their own, but are definitely worth seeing.

Some will already be familiar to many fans, others perhaps less so, but let's face it, if it's a photo of Rachel, it should be here!

First up is a screencap taken from the Belfast Telegraph footage we featured on the site back in June. Rachel helped to promote a Belfast cancer charity's 'Buy A Brick' campaign and this nice crowd scene is quite different to the one we originally included on the blog.

Our next photo is (as you may have guessed) from the Irish News and is a particularly nice pose, again illustrating Rachel's charity work. This was a promotional shot for Macmillan Cancer's coffee morning. Andy liked this one so much he ordered a print directly from the newspaper!

This one may be familiar to most but is a slightly better quality print than the one on the BBC site. The final six Nancy's of course got to meet Celine Dion and Rachel looks suitably chuffed.

Well of course you knew we'd have to feature a few Oz shots didn't you? Karen has been absolutely brilliant in sharing her backstage photos with us and here is another beautiful one of the two girls in their luxurious(?) dressing room.

Dorothy and the two witches. Karen was a delight as Glinda while Tommy was one of the scariest wicked witches you're ever likely to encounter. My daughter loves to recount the first time the Munchkins met him -- he leapt out at them without warning backstage -- several are still running.

I think I'm right in saying that this was taken at the premiere of 'Sex And The City.' Those other rascally 'I'd Do Anything' girls tried to hog the picture, but we know who is the real star of the show.

Rachel at Pride -- More Info

If you're planning on seeing Rachel performing at the Belfast Gay Pride Street Party this Saturday, we've just received a little more information which you may find useful.

There will actually be two live stages and Rachel will be appearing on the one in Union Street, near the Kremlin.

Her approximate stage slot is between 7pm and 8pm.

I know most of you won't be able to go as you don't live near Belfast but we will be there to cover the event for you. Watch this space!

Rachel's First Role

Sorry everyone but there's no mystery photo contest for these two priceless pictures.

No-one could fail to spot Rachel here in her debut stage appearance.

As Karen mentioned in her introductory 'I've Got A Friend' post last month, Rachel was cast in the role of naughty orphan Molly in their school production of Annie, way back in 1991.

The show obviously warranted a mention in the local paper, despite or perhaps because of the worrying fact that Karen was apparently allowed to drink vodka and smoke in public at the age of 15.

Personally I think this is one of the best and most fun photos we've yet featured on the blog and as Karen herself said, Little Flower School obviously had a little star in their midst. Well two little stars let's be honest!

I'd like to say a huge thank you to Karen for finding these marvellous momentoes and also to the school for introducing Rachel to the theatrical stage.

Karen Says:
"Thanks David for publishing these pictures... wow they are a blast aren't they. I also have a video of this production believe it or not but its lost somewhere in the caverns of my parents loft! It was a great production and my last ever at school. I would also like to take this opportunity and on behalf of Rachel, to say a massive thank you to music teachers Mary O' Connor and Michelle Hart for passing on their knowledge, time and support all through our years at school. Without their endless enthusiasm, encouragement and immediate introduction to Amateur Dramatics I personally feel I may never have been given the chance to pursue Musical Theatre and make it a career."

Exclusive -- Rachel At The Proms

We're very excited to learn that Rachel will be appearing at the BBC Proms event at Belfast City Hall on Saturday 13th September.

We'll bring you more details as we receive them, but at this stage we know that Rachel will be performing at least one show number with Niamh Perry.

This is going to be yet another big night for our girl, just nine days before her West End debut and we know it's going to be great!

Some West End Tips

With so many of Rachel's fans having bought tickets for her opening night, I thought it might be a good idea for West End 'first-timers' like myself to find out a little more about what to expect on the night.

Fortunately Rosie, one of our regular readers and her friend Eleanor have agreed to give us a few tips on what to do and what not to do!

Rosie and Eleanor are West End regulars (in fact they visit more often than many cast members!) but this will be their first time to see 'We Will Rock You' -- and what better way to see it than on Rachel's opening night!

I'd particularly like to thank the girls for this article as they are both currently on holiday -- in seperate continents, and still managed to compile this for us.

''Well, as soon as news of Rachel's big break reached us, we know that you've all been as excited as us to go and see her achieve her West End dream!

David has asked us to write a short piece about attending West End shows, mainly for those of you who (like him), are new to the whole experience and are possibly finding it a little daunting!

I'm sure that none of you need persuading to go and see Rachel blow everyone away in 'We Will Rock You' - instead this piece aims to make the whole experience a little more relaxed and enjoyable.

It is advisable to get to the theatre early, just so it's not a big rush. If you are picking up tickets, you can't do so more than 2 hours before the performance starts. Bearing in mind the performance starts at 7:30pm, normally within the 30 minutes before there is a mad rush of people arriving, and the last thing you want is to be caught in the queue!

I happen to know of lots of lovely cafes and restaurants around the Tottenham Court Road area for when you have your tickets and are waiting for the show to start!

After the show it is usually possible to wait at the stage door to meet the stars of the show. This is always a fantastic end to the evening. We have no idea whether or not Rachel herself will come to the stage door, but we know just how amazing it would be to meet such a talented and lovely lady!

Even though plenty of stars do come out of the stage door, there are some exceptions, for example Lee Mead. Winning 'Any Dream Will Do' has not only made him a West End star but somewhat of a celebrity. Therefore his photo opportunity happens in front of the theatre, and he signs things and gives out photos! All very exciting.

Obviously, we have no idea if Rachel will even be able to meet any of us, whether from the front door or the back, but our advice is to stay around and wait and see where people are heading - alternatively, ask the staff at the theatre!

David also asked us about dress-code and the rules regarding cameras and camcorders.

It doesn't matter what you decide to turn up in, but, although this might seem blindingly obvious to some people, wear something cool and comfortable (the theatres get so hot!) - of course, dressing up a bit is fun as well and adds to the experience.

Obviously photography is banned during the performance. Just last week I went to see 'Wicked' at the Apollo Theatre in Victoria and someone used flash photography - they were immediately pounced on and taken out of the theatre!

Even though quite a few Central London venues are picky about photography, most theatres are fine with you taking lots of pictures in and around the theatre itself (and obviously at the stage door!).

We hope that some of this has been helpful to you - we are not experts at all, just two girls who LOVE going to West End shows!!

Hope to see as many of you as possible at Rachel's opening night!

Love, Rosie and Eleanor x''

Exclusive -- Pride For Rachel

Belfast fans are in for a real treat on Saturday 2nd August, when Rachel will be paying a flying visit to the annual Gay Pride Street Party.

The event will be held in Union Street and although we're not sure at this point exactly what Rachel will be performing, it's sure to be worth seeing!

If you can't make it on the day -- fear not -- your intrepid reporter David will be there with his trusty camera and camcorder. Judging by the crowds at last year's event, he may well be trampled in the rush, but the blog pictures will get through no matter what!

Congratulations to Sam

We'd like to congratulate Samantha Barks, who has been cast in the role of Sally Bowles in the touring production of Cabaret.

She will appear alongside established performer Wayne Sleep, who is taking on the role of the Emcee.

The Sally Bowles part is a demanding one and we wish Sam every success.

Guess Who?...

I proudly present todays mystery photo

but here is todays twist...

We do not want to know which actor Rachel in this picture; but you can guess if you like. We want to know which ex reality star tv personality is appearing alongside Rachel and in which production ??

Answers on a postcard please... I'm getting carried away. OK a comment below will be just fine :)

HAPPY GUESSING!

Mystery Solved!

You'll be delighted to hear that the holiday photo mystery has now been solved!

You weren't too far off Katee -- it was taken in Cyprus last summer.

As for the 'Westside Story' photo, it was indeed Gerard McCarthy dancing with Rachel, but the venue wasn't the Opera House in Belfast -- Rachel reckons it was either York Opera House or Bristol.

She also revealed that tutors from a Bristol drama school came to see the show and offered both her and Gerard unconditional places on the strength of their performances.

Top marks for talent spotting!

A big thank you to Rachel for the information!

We hope to bring you another mystery photo tomorrow.

Rachel Wallpapers

The picture above is an example of my first ever attempt at a desktop wallpaper.

The links immediately below this message will take you to Megaupload where you will be able to download the wallpaper that matches your screens resolution.

I must warn you that I am no graphics expert so don't expect too much. Rachel as always looks stunning but despite my best efforts I lost some of the quality on the higher resolution images.

If there are any graphics experts out there who would like to create any Rachel wallpapers for our site we would be delighted to have your assistance.

1024 x 768 ~~~~~ 1152 x 864

1280 x 800 ~~~~~ 1280 x 960

1440 x 900 ~~~~~ 1600 x 1200

1680 x 1050 ~~~~~ 1920 x 1200

The picture above is an example of my second attempt; you'll probably find it's not much better - actually I don't think it's as good - but at least it gives you a choice of 2.

As I said, if anyone with any graphical expertise would like to provide us with some Rachel wallpapers for the blog or improve the quality of the ones we've already posted, your help would be very much appreciated.

As usual the links immediately below this message will take you to Megaupload where you will be able to download the wallpaper that matches your screens resolution.

1024 x 768 ~~~~~ 1152 x 864

1280 x 800 ~~~~~ 1280 x 960

1440 x 900 ~~~~~ 1600 x 1200

1680 x 1050 ~~~~~ 1920 x 1200

If you want one of these wallpapers but find the link no longer exists don't panic; just send me (Andy) an email and I'll re-upload it.

An Easier One!

Well first of all I'd like to give Katee 10 out of 10 for effort!

As of this moment however, the photo below remains one of life's great mysteries!

We were given permission to use the picture by Vikki from Rachel's Myspace Fanpage. Unfortunately Vikki isn't sure of it's origins either and it looks like the only person who can solve this mystery is Rachel herself.

So I thought it might be a good idea to feature a photo which we definitely CAN identify!

This picture is of an early Rachel stage appearance -- but can you name the young man dancing with her and also the name of the production they were appearing in?

Counter Challenge!

Well Karen caught me out the other day with her school play photo, so here's one for you Karen (and anyone else who wants to have a go!)

This is obviously Rachel but when and where?

I'll credit the photo when the results are in.

PS. Rachel you're allowed to have a go too!

Rachel's Video Blog

I just thought I'd remind everyone of the Rachel Video Blog which Andy has created.

There is nothing better than watching Rachel perform but until we get to see her on stage in 'We Will Rock You' all we can do to get our daily fix is re-watch her stunning performances on I'd Do Anything.

We realise with the huge amount of posts now on the blog it's not always easy to find what you're looking for.

With that in mind we have created a new blog for all our I'd Do Anything videos.

It already includes 2 videos we haven't posted on the main site - Rachel & Jessie's duet 'Buenos Aires' and Rachel, Ashley & Jodie performing 'Man I Feel Like a Woman' - and we will be adding all the other group performances and Nancy missions over the coming weeks.

You will also find links to high quality downloads of all Rachel's performances just above the Video Bar.

The link below will take you to 'Rachel's Id Do Anything Video Collection' where you we be able to re-live some memories you'll never want to forget.

'Who's The Biggest Fan' Challenge + Jessie Blog

WHO'S THAT GIRL?

Understandably we haven't posted anything in the last few days as we wanted to keep Rachel's lovely update at the top of the page for everyone to see.

We do however have a couple of great new posts coming up, including some priceless pictures of Rachel's school play performances!

As a little taster, see if you can spot our girl in this photo of the 'Annie' cast with Karen.

"let me just interupt you there David... lol. HI there Tucker fans; I was having great fun when I emailed some old pics to David. I challenged him to guess which little girl was Rachel. I'm happy to tell everyone that he only took two guess to get it right lol....so lets have some fun with this blog. Who's really Rachels 'biggest fan' and can tell us 'Who that girl is'.

I now challenge all you fans out there....who's gonna win first prize?" :-)

We're delighted to say that our blog has inspired Kate from the Internet Forum to set up a similar project for Jessie!

Titled the 'Jessie Buckley Fan Blog', you'll notice a strong resemblance in layout to our very own site, and we're very pleased that Jessie is being recognised in this way.

We'd like to wish Kate all the very best with her new venture!

Rachel Is Home!

Wow! We've just received this fantastic update from Rachel and we're still shaking!

There is lots of information and even a mention for Jmor's fan video!

Enough from me -- here is the lady herself:

Hello there everyone, well I'm back from the nicest weeks holiday EVER!

So relaxing and just what we both needed, so nice in fact we want to make that one of the places to go on our honeymoon!(notice how i say ONE).

Yes I came back to a whirlwind of phone calls and radio interviews about my good news- which im delighted to say all you guys were the first to know before any paper of radio station!! So there!

I would have loved to let you know personally in a blog but time last weekend was nowhere to be seen!

I found out on Thursday up at Sydmonton-with all the girls which was really lovely and a very special moment because they were all so happy for me and we've shared so much together, but of course I had no time to get on a computer and tell you guys personally!

So I called Karen to tell David to tell you!

Well as you know I open on Mon 22 september with other new cast members, some of whom i know from before, so that was nice to hear.

Rehearsals start 18 Aug and I CANT BLOODY WAIT!

So excited and nervous and scared, I sometimes think I'll forget what to do!Hope not! So more to be posted about that nearer the time.

Now onto the Workshop-in a word WOW! I just experienced something that I'll probably never experience again.

The girls and myself had the funnest, exciting, nerve wracking experience (after Nancy) ever!

I was very grateful and honoured to be asked to play a part in this fascinating piece. It was a wonderful experience to be a part of this exciting rehearsal process.

So on to our Cabaret -- well we all loved it and it was fantastic to be up performing with the girls again.

We did a group number, and then one by one we did a song of our choice that was beautifully choreographed.

Sam opened with 'Wizard and I' then Jessie with 'Man That Got Away', then Ashley-'Big Spender' then me with Cabaret, of course! Niamh did 'Maybe I like it This Way' and Jodie finished with 'Send in The Clowns'.

It was a great show and very well recieved by all and I'm very proud to put this on my CV.

So thats really all the low down on my latest news, nothing more to say and sorry if i've went on a bit but lots to fill you in on!

So bye for now and i hope you're enjoying the site, must say the footage by Jmor really got me and I thought was so true to me so thanks for that!

x love Rachel.

Rachel In The Sun

It's worth mentioning that Rachel featured in Sara Nathan's 'TV Biz' column in The Sun newspaper yesterday.

Although there is no new information in the article, this is an impressive inclusion as The Sun is the UK's best selling newspaper, with sales of over three million per day.

RACHEL WILL ROCK THE STAGE AT LAST

By ONLINE REPORTER
Published: 14 Jul 2008

"I'd Do Anything semi-finalist Rachel Tucker has bagged a role in West End musical We Will Rock You.

After losing out in I'd Do Anything, Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber assured Rachel she had a "huge career" ahead of her.

The pretty brunette will now star in her "dream role" as Meat in the long-running Queen musical.

She said: “It is a dream part. We Will Rock You is one of my favourite shows.

"I first saw it when I was a student at the Royal Academy of Music and loved it. I am beside myself with excitement - I just can’t believe it."

We wish her every success!"

DAVID SAYS:

No-one watching 'I'd Do Anything' can have failed to miss the chemistry between Rachel and Jessie, a friendship which has continued since the show.

We're aware that Jessie has been offered a role which she is considering and we will bring you news as soon as something is confirmed.

Have You Bought Your Tickets Yet?

It's hard to believe that this is our 100th post in barely six weeks!

There is just so much to write about Rachel -- past, present and particularly future that we may yet reach 1000!

It will come as a shock to no-one that Andy and I have secured tickets for Rachel's opening night, and we know that many of you have too. If you've bought tickets for the big night, or any subsequent performance, do let us know by leaving a comment.

If you haven't taken the plunge yet, here is some more information on the show itself:

'We Will Rock You' opened on 14th May 2002 and is booking until October 2009.

It is the longest running show at the Dominion and has received a standing ovation at every single one of it's 2300 performances to date.

In the UK alone, almost 4 million tickets have been sold, an average of 620 000 per year.

'We Will Rock You' has also opened in 21 other world cities, including Tokyo, Moscow, Madrid, Las Vegas and Melbourne. It is scheduled to open in Bangkok this month.

As an indication of the wide audience the show attracts, the purchaser of the 1 millionth ticket in London on October 2006 was a 61-year old grandmother who was buying a ticket to treat her 4 year old great grandson to see the show.

“This show is all about legend,” says co-creator Ben Elton. “We take the legend of Queen and create our own fantastical story of young kids battling the mighty corporations who want to suppress their individuality and their love of music. They need a hero who can help them in their struggle, and we have two – the dreamer Galileo and his sassy sidekick Scaramouche. Guess who ends up winning?”

“The weird thing,” says Brian May, “ is that somehow Ben has created a show that although we’re not in it, people come out of the theatre thinking they’ve somehow seen Queen.”

“QUEEN’S MUSICAL IS KIND OF MAGIC... SPECTACULAR... WHAT AN EVENING...MAGNIFICO”
The Sun

“THERE’S NO ESCAPING THE IRRESISTIBLE PULL OF THESE SONGS, OR THE VISUAL AND AURAL ASSAULT ON THE SENSES THAT THE SHOW ACCOMPANIES THEM WITH”
Sunday Express

“EXHILARATING AND GREAT FUN”
Time Magazine

“THIS SHOW SHOULD RUN FOREVER. SENSATIONAL”
Daily Mirror

“A NEW BREED OF MUSICAL. IT’S BRILLIANT”
BBC Newsnight.

DAVID SAYS:

I recently dug out my Queen Greatest Hits 1 and 2 CDs and gave them a whirl. I have to say that the songs featured in the show have stood the test of time incredibly well and I'm very excited about seeing WWRY even before adding the awesome Rachel factor.

Five weeks may seem a short time to rehearse and perfect such a major role, but our girl is a consummate professional and Rachel's 'Cabaret' performance alone illustrates just how much this lady can deliver.

We know Rachel will be absolutely awesome as Meat and if for some unthinkable reason you can't manage the opening night, make sure you reserve your seat as soon afterwards as possible.

Don't wait for our opening night review -- you already know what we're going to say!

Tickets £27.50 - £55 from Dominion box office or by telephone on: 0870 169 0116 (Booking Fee).

Rachel Slideshow

I'd like to point out a great new feature which Andy has added to the blog today.

The Rachel slideshow can be found just below the welcome message and I'm sure you'll agree it's an excellent addition to the site.

Once again Andy proves why he's an indispensible member of our team!

Thanks David but I think Rachel's fans would agree that it's your incredible journalistic skills that make every post a joy to read.

While we are on the subject of the slideshow I'd like to take this opportunity to let everyone know that we will be updating our existing gallery posts with improved images and some brand new pictures.

Thanks to Jessie we now have High quality footage of every one of Rachel's performances on the show and that has enabled us to capture some far better screencaps.

This process will probably take a few weeks to complete but click on the link below to check out our 'About You Now' Gallery for a taste of what’s to come:

'About You Now' Gallery

Finally I'd just like to make sure everyone has noticed the 'Video Bar' which can be found just below the slideshow on the right of the blog.

This nifty little addition means that four of our favourite videos will always be accessible from the main page. Just click on the one you would like to watch, sit back and enjoy.

Andy.

Congratulations To Niamh!

We'd like to send our congratulations to Niamh, who has just been cast as 'Snow White' in Eastbourne's Devonshire Park Theatre.

She will be appearing from December 12th until January 11th 2009.

Niamh has already been cast as Belle in the production 'Only The Brave', which will premiere at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival on July 31st. We are delighted to hear her good news and look forward to similar stories from the other 'I'd Do Anything' girls.

Rachel Is Big News!!!

At least a dozen magazines, newspapers and sites have now run with Rachel's big story to a greater or lesser extent, most of them summarising the information in yesterday's press release.

This is an excellent sign as it illustrates Rachel's widespread appeal and richly deserved success.

For those wanting a little more, it also illustrates the importance of fan sites, which exist to provide the faithful with in-depth coverage, exclusive material and a chance to contribute comments and articles.

THAT'S WHY WE'RE HERE!

Here is a small article featured in tonight's Belfast Telegraph. Again there's nothing new information-wise, but we like the photo! (Above)

AFTER NANCY, RACHEL IS READY TO ROCK THE WEST END

Friday, July 11, 2008
By Vicky Shaw
(Belfast Telegraph)

Northern Ireland’s I’d Do Anything star Rachel Tucker has landed her first leading lady West End role in We Will Rock You. She will take over the part of sassy rebel Meat in Queen and Ben Elton’s hit musical at London’s Dominion Theatre from mid-September.

Rachel said: “It is a dream part. We Will Rock You is one of my favourite shows.
“I first saw it when I was a student at the Royal Academy and loved it. I am beside myself with excitement. I just can’t believe it.”

Belfast-raised Tucker narrowly missed out on a place in the final of the BBC1 show to find a Nancy to star in a West End production of musical Oliver! Jodie Prenger was later crowned Nancy in the final.

Broadway star Kerry Ellis — one of Tucker’s biggest supporters on I’d Do Anything — used to play the part of Meat.

Belfast based Fame Magazine have an exclusive photo of Rachel tucking into the bubbly following her big news. Nice one!

Rehearsal Date Confirmed

We've just heard that rehearsals with the new cast are due to commence on 18th August.

Official Press Announcement

Now the news of Rachel's opening night is official there is likely to be a mad rush to secure tickets. If you look carefully at the picture above you might just be able to spot me and David at the front of the queue.

Here’s the email we received this afternoon:

TV's I'd Do Anything's RACHEL TUCKER lands Meaty West End Role as hit musical We Will Rock You announces new cast.

And Killer Queen reveals family ties with Mama Morton.

Irish singer Rachel Tucker who scored such a big impression with the judges and public alike on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s I’ll Do Anything – particularly for her performance of Cabaret which drew a standing ovation from the panel - but narrowly missed being cast as Nancy, has found herself her first West End leading lady role.

Rachel takes over the part of the sassy rebel Meat in Queen & Ben Elton’s hit musical We Will Rock You from mid-September. And by strange coincidence, this is the part made famous by Kerry Ellis, now a huge success on Broadway in Wicked; Kerry was one of Rachel’s biggest supporters on I’ll Do Anything.

The talented Belfast born singer who makes her first night in the musical on September 22 said: “It is a dream part. We Will Rock You is one of my favourite shows. I first saw it when I was a student at the Royal Academy and loved it. I am beside myself with excitement. I just can’t believe it.”

Further news on the current re-casting of We Will Rock You has Mazz Murray, the longest serving cast member of the Dominion show, to continue in her role of Killer Queen. Mazz had the unenviable task of taking over the role from the powerhouse Sharon D. Clarke - now a judge on the BBC’s Last Choir Standing - in April 2004 but has more than ably made the part her own and has been giving the role her own brand of magic nightly for the past four years.

Mazz however is not the only member of her family treading the boards in the West End: sister Gina Murray joins the cast of Chicago next week taking on the role of Mama Morton. Theatre-goers will recall Gina as leading lady Georgie in “The Full Monty”. After taking a break from theatre to appear in the film “Sorted” and to have two sons, Gina is back as the West End’s favourite ‘Mama’.

It is little surprise that both Mazz and Gina ended up on the musical stage. They are part of the Murray ‘musical dynasty’. Father Mitch Murray was one of the most successful pop writers of the 60’s and 70’s. Taken under the wing of Beatles producer George Martin, Mitch wrote a strong of No.1 hits for the likes of Gerry and the Pacemakers, The Tremeloes and Cliff Richard and was a big influence on artists of today: Sting refers to him as his ‘mentor’.

Other new casting for the cast of We Will Rock You taking it into its seventh year on stage include Ian Carlyle in the role of Meat’s tough-guy partner Britney, and Garry Lake as the guardian of the texts, Pop. Carlyle has impressed audiences with his performances in Porgy and Bess and Miss Saigon. Lake rises from the WWRY ensemble to take on the role of the fixed -in-time hippy, Pop.

Show leads Ricardo Afonso, playing Galileo ‘the chosen one’, and Sabrina Aloueche as the lippy Scaramouche who eggs Galileo on to become a hero will continue to lead the company.

We Will Rock You new cast first night is Monday September 22.

We Will Rock is presently playing its seventh year in London with productions across the world. To date more than 6 million people have seen the show.

WE WILL ROCK YOU. A Phil McIntyre Entertainments/Queen Theatrical Productions and Tribeca Theatrical Productions production. Dominion Theatre, Tottenham Court Road, London, W1. (Tottenham Court Road tube station).

Tickets £27.50 - £55 from Dominion box office or by telephone on: 0870 169 0116 (Booking Fee).

Opening Night Confirmed

We've just had an important email confirming that September 22nd is indeed scheduled to be Rachel's opening night!

Given this information, plus the fact that a third theatre site is weighing in with this date (see below), we're going to run with the story.

Obviously nothing can ever be certain, particularly in theatre-land, but as fans, this is as close as we're likely to get to a definite confirmation.

We've said it before and we'll say it again -- see you there!

TV's I'll Do Anything's Rachel Tucker joins cast of Queen musical, We Will Rock You , as 'Meat' at the Dominion Theatre from 22 Sep 2008.

Rachel Tucker, who came 4th on the reality tv show said: “It is a dream part. We Will Rock You is one of my favourite shows. I first saw it when I was a student at the Royal Academy and loved it. I am beside myself with excitement. I just can’t believe it.” Rachel has appeared in UK tours of The Full Monty, Tommy and Tonight’s The Night.

Other cast changes includes Ian Carlyle as 'Britney', and Garry Lake as 'Pop'. Show leads Ricardo Afonso, playing Galileo, and Sabrina Aloueche as Scaramouche continue to lead the company.

The show opened at the Dominion theatre 14 May 2002, following previews from 26 April 2002, and is currently taking bookings to 3 Oct 2009! By September 2008 , the show will have been seen by 4 million people in London.

It has songs by Queen and book by Ben Elton. It is directed by Christopher Renshaw, choreographed by Arlene Phillips, with designs by Mark Fisher and Willie Williams.

We Will Rock You does not chronicle the story of the band, Queen, rather it incorporates the songs of the rock group. The time is the future. Globalisation is complete. Everywhere, the kids watch the same movies wear the same fashions and think the same thoughts. It's a safe happy, Ga Gaworld. Unless your a rebel. Unless you want rock. On Planet Mall all musical instruments are banned. The company computers generate the tunes and everyone downloads them. But resistance is growing. Legend persists that somewhere on Planet Mall instruments still exist......

'Whats On Stage' Article

The 'Whatsonstage' site have published a small article today on Rachel's big news.

Nothing in it that we don't already know, but it's interesting that they also quote the 22nd September as Rachel's opening night.

The author however doesn't quote any source for this information, so it's possible they may be following our source (The Dominion Theatre) on this one.

We would therefore still urge caution when purchasing tickets. As before, we'll keep you updated.

Further down the post you will find various links to similar articles on other sites.

IDA’s Rachel Tucker Joins Queen’s We Will Rock You
Date: 10 July 2008

Rachel Tucker has become the latest failed Nancy to be cast in a West End role since the conclusion of the BBC’s I’d Do Anything reality TV competition in May. From 22 September, Tucker will star as Meat in Queen musical We Will Rock You at the Dominion Theatre.

One of the Irish ‘Nancys’, Tucker made it as far as the semi-finals on I’d Do Anything, competing to win a starring role in Cameron Mackintosh’s upcoming revival of Lionel Bart’s Oliver! at the West End’s Theatre Royal Drury Lane, a prize which eventually went to Jodie Prenger (See News, 2 Jun 2008). Tucker was the ninth of the final dozen voted off by the public.

Prior to I’d Do Anything, Tucker was already a professional performer, with credits including Rod Stewart’s Tonight’s the Night in the West End, and Rent, The Wizard of Oz and The Full Monty elsewhere.

Set in the future, We Will Rock You tells the story of a world in which globalisation has meant the death of real music in favour of computer-produced cyber stars, a status quo which the rebel Bohemians, harking back to the Golden Age of rock (embodied by Queen), are trying to overthrow so that they can write and perform their own music. An unintentional hero ends up saving the kids of Planet Mall from the tyrannical Killer Queen and discovers the place of living rock.

We Will Rock You has a book by Ben Elton and features 32 of Queen’s greatest hits including "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Crazy Little Thing Called Love", "Under Pressure", "Radio Gaga" and, of course, "We Will Rock You". It’s directed by Elton, choreographed by Arlene Phillips and designed by Mark Fisher and Willie Williams.

Tucker takes over the role of Meat from Lucy Sinclair. The current cast also features Ricardo Afonso (as Galileo), Sabrina Aloueche (Scaramouche), Mazz Murray (Killer Queen) and Alex Bourne (Kashoggi). We Will Rock You is currently booking at the Dominion Theatre until 3 October 2009, more than seven years after it opened to largely damning reviews on 14 May 2002 (previews from 26 April).

SYDMONTON

Information on Sydmonton has so far been as rare as hen's teeth, but there is a very brief mention in this morning's 'Independent' newspaper.'

Correspondent Janet Street-Porter, who was at the event, seems to have been impressed.

Her verdict may or may not please die-hard 'Phantom' fans.

Thank you for the musicals

Last weekend, at Andrew Lloyd Webber's Sydmonton Festival, he unveiled his latest work in progress, the sequel to The Phantom of the Opera. I'm not allowed to reveal the plot – but judging by what I saw, he's on to another winner, when it opens in late 2009.

With Phantom the longest-running show ever on Broadway, seen by 100 million people world-wide, you can see why Lloyd Webber is writing a follow-up.

We might be facing a recession, but musical theatre provides one form of escapism we don't want to give up. The success of TV reality shows like How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?, have led to new box office records for West End theatres.
